This is a First Printing hardcover book in a dust jacket. The binding is tight. The book is crisp and fresh except for a slight dulling of gilt on the spine and a former owner label on the half-title page. The covers and the interior or clean. There are no other marks or writing. The dust jacket is unclipped and equally crisp and clean, however there is a closed tear at the bottom of the back panel and two tiny chips next to the tear. This is a hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book is covered in a brown patterned paper with an inset for the paper printed title. The spine is in a dark brown. The book is very clean inside and out. The covers show a little inward curve of the paper at the top and bottom of the spine and there is a hint of a vertical crease to the front free end paper. The title page and various other pages are decorated in Arts & Crafts style design in the colors of yellow, green, and mustard. The end papers are free of marks or writing. The dust jacket is printed in Arts & Crafts style - the rose of Dard Hunter. There are several chips at the corners and edges and one on the front fold at the fore edge. ; 8vo

This is an ex-library book binding containing the original 1854 book. This is Volume 2. The covers are a brown cloth with faded gilt title. There is a call number in gilt on the front cover, a pocket on the inside front end paper. The free end paper has a piece of plain paper pasted in, possibly covering the name of the donor. The name of the library is in pinpoint perforation on the first three pages. There is another stamp on the copyright pages and the page edges have been stamped. The book is in three parts containing biographical detail of the three men mentioned.. The outside voers are light scuffed and there is a little wear to the top of the spine. The tight interior hinges have tape. The interior pages are clean and very readable type. ; Vol. 2; 12mo; 301 pages

This is a 16 volume set in leather and marbled boards from a limited edition of 774 copies, this being number 420. (This set will only be sold within the United States) . It is a handome, complete set in blue Moroccan leather 3/4 spines and corners with blue-gilt marbled paper over the book board covers. The top edges are gilt, fore-edges are untrimmed, end papers marbled, with some Illustrations and tissude guards in each volume. The spines have raised bands with a gilt flower design and titles. The covers and interior pages are very clean. Some careful, professional repair has been done to some of the spines. The very edge of some of the marbled boards show light wear. The interior hinges are very tight with no breaks. The leather on the edges of the spine is a little fragile on some of the volumes - some show a hint of faint breaks in the leather mostly at the middle of the spine. There is a small triangle shape lifted from the marbled cover on one volume. Some volumes have an etched , tasteful, armorial bookplate of the former owner.
