1366 Louys, Pierre APHRODITE (Collection Nymphee)
Paris Librairie L. Borel 1901 Hardcover Illustrated by A. Calbet
This is a small hardcover book in leather and marbled boards published in 1901 (early edition) using the illustrations by Calbet. The leather WAS a rich green morocco, the marbled paper is in a rich complimentary design. The back cover is still a rich green, however, the spine and front cover have severely faded. The leather has worn at the curve of the edges, corners, tips of the bands of the spine, and at the curved hinges of the spine. The color at the spine appears to be a brown, not green. There is a short separaton at the bottom of the back hinge - that does not weaken the strength and there is a slight curve to the book board at the rear bottom, however the interior rear hinge (gutter) is secure. The front interior end paper has split, but is storng. The end papers are marbled in a different design. The paper is brittle with consequences - fine chipping on some edges and some darkening from the outside of the pages in. The illustrations are mostly in black and white, some are tinted in blue and red. The spine has five raised bands with two leather overlays for the title and author which is in gilt. There is a former owner black and white bookplate on the inside pasted down end paper. There are no other marks or writing. There are 346 numbered pages and Table des Maitres. The text is in French. ; 12mo
