1754 Richards, Robert Hallowell HIS MARK

This is a First Edition hardcover book in a dust jacket and a provenance-gi ft note laid in. The book has a tight binding and has handsome bright blue cloth covers. There is a title in gilt on the cover and a slight dulled gilt title on the spine. There are no marks or writing on the interior pages which are clean, however, there is foxing in the book. A single page typed note is enclosed and appears to have been laid in at the title page - there is foxing which may have been a reaction to impurities in the paper. See below for provenance-gift note. There is also foxing on many pages towards the front fore-edge and lightly on the edges. The book was bound with fore-edges untrimmed and a few pages were sliced open roughly. The dust jacket has a darkened spine, some edge wear, a puncture on the front fold of the flap. The top edge is slightly discolored. It is unclipped. It looks crisp and bright in its see-through, removable mylar cover. Richards enrolled at MIT within weeks of its opening. He was a mining engineer and professor and stayed at MIT for 49 years. The note contains the following. "To the members of the class of 1881 MIT from Arthur Winslow through the generosiity of Miss Susan Minns". The note is now enclosed in an archival crystal clear thin bag to prevent contact with the pages. . ; 8vo; 329 pages
