All the pages are crisp as well as the cover except for a nickel size spot that is faintly lighter in color than the remainder of the cover. There is no jacket, most likely as issued. This is a first edition hardcover book without a dust jacket. The cover art is signed with a monogram of DD for Decorative Designers. It is a book that is included in a group of now collectible books called American Decorative Books. The time period means that many of the books used an art nouveau styling, as this one does. The covers are maroon colored cloth with a reverse embossed design (blind stamped) and filled with gold and green ink. The spine is titled and lightly decorated. The binding is tight. The covers and the interior are clean, however there is a former owner name and address on the front free end paper in ink. There are no other marks or writing. The top edges are dull, The fore and bottom edges are untrimmed (not evenly cut) and clean. There are eight full page illustrations bound in - the images are quite small and hve been printed light brown ink. They are scenes from the book. Some are quite small. The story is in dialect with terms and sayings as of 1902.; 8vo; 132 pages

The The abrasion in a vertical line on the front cover next to the spine from the middle to the bottom of the cover. There is no color loss. The interior pages are crisp and clean. The front free end paper has a crossed off price and a number in the upper right corner. The pasted down end paper has a price. Both prices were made with a wide point pen and probably, not removalbe. There is a former owner name on the front free end paper with some information. It appears to read "Pvt 1/c C. E. Goff / C. E. 31st Engrs / Niort "vendee" Dwn / France / 1918-1919 6/20 7/30" Well cared for by owners, but not be price markers. Tight, bright, crisp, clean. Profusely illustrated with copies of photos that are weak in clarity and ink. ; 8vo; 146 pages

This is first edition book that has been rebound in a handsome grey linen binding with a black leather overlay-background on the cover and spine for lettering of the book title in metallic silver ink. The binding is in fine condition. The book pages show waterlines on the top of all the pages and further down the page towards the rear of the book. There is another line near a part of the spine for about the first 20 pages. It is a light-medium shading. There is some rippling to the pages, but none are sticking together, all are easy to turn, the paper is strong, and on the crisp and clean side of use. There are no marks or writing. The book is nicely designed and printed, easy to read, and in a good size font. The book is profusley illustrated in half tones of grey, black and white. There are scenes, portraits, views, places, and poised and unpoised photos of the soldiers. The book appears to be very thorough in the write-ups of each man and keeping lists, and describing the make-up of and happenings of the supporting departments as well as the men in the troops. ; 8vo; 363 pages
