This is a full brown leather hardcover book without a dust jacket. This volume (II) is a handsome tightly bound book with a bright gilt title and decoration on the cover and spine. The plays are Don Carlos, The Misanthrope, Wallenstein's Camp, The Piccolomini, The Death of Wallenstein, Mary Stuart, The Maid of Orleans. The book is illustrated with high quality steel engravings on heavy paper, full page wood engravings with tinted borders, and in text wood engravings. The end papers are without marks or writings, however there are two marks left from tape (? ) that may have left from taping a cover. The tape marks are small and are at the top and bottom of the pasted down end paper near the spine with a touch of offsetting to the adjacent free end paper. The interior pages are crisp and clean. The cover has a repair to the lower front cover with some loss of gilt defining the corner. There is light wear to the edges and the bottom of the spine. This book has been well cared for. The book is well constructed and is printed on quality paper, somewhat heavy, and may require extra postage if shipped by air. ; Vol. 2; 4to; 388 pages

SIGNED BY CLARKE. Tight, bright copy of limited edition, this is number 525 of 1000. Grey paper covered boards with one half vellum, vellum slightly darkened, but tight. Hint of tear in paper covering board on front panel, but not weakened or broken - reason unexplainable. Very light wear to four corners, spine title is faded, there is some scattered foxing on first free page and first page of preface. Top edges gilt, fore and bottom edges deckled. A 1/8 inch closed tear is at the top of the spine. SIGNED by Harry Clarke. EIght color plates, plus many text and full page black and white illustrations. This is a softcover portfolio (booklet form) containing 22 images of Salt Lake City and without text except for a legend and background on each of the images. The artist is Nathaniel I. Gornick. The prints look like etchings, including plate marks, however the printing method is 'Genuine Albertype Reproductions' (printed by The Albertype Company of Brooklyn, N. Y.. The cover is a heavy cream colored, quality card stock paper printed with the title of the image and displaying "The Open Gate' by Gornick. Each of the other pages are also on the same paper. The booklet is bound by a cord with a tassle. The binding is tight. The booklet is very clean and crisp. There are two tiny age spots on the front cover. The booklet came in a portfolio envelope which is no longer in good shape, but it has protected the booklet wel and will be shipped with the booklet. Each image is titled. The artist's name (initials and last name) are printed below the image along with the title. The image on the covers counts as one of the twenty-two prints. There are two smaller ones on one page and all the other images are full page. Many of the images are of Mormon interest. Gornick is a recognized artist whose original works were released through Associated Artists of America along with the works of name artists such as Thomas Hart Benson. The art work is of a nice quality. This booklet is still in gift condition after 75 + years. ; 4to

This is a hardcover book published in 1895. There are several artists who have illustrated the book and the cover was designed by Margaret Armstrong. Black and white line drawings within the text and on full pages is by Charles Dana Gibson, B. West Clinedinst, and W. H. Hyde. The contents are 10 comical stories somewhat related to etiquette. Some of the story titles are The Use of Time, The Conduct of Life, TheSummer Problem, Education. The cover is a beige cloth with gilt and green decoration. There is a striped border in green, a border in gilt, a gilt and green title in script and design. The cover has some corner wear and the bottom edges are a little frayed. There is a sprinkle of spots on the front cover, some soild on the rear cover, and the spine has darkened and the gilt title weakened. There is a former owner name on the on the front end paper. The interior pages are clean and crisp. There are no other marks or writing. The top edges are gilt. The book is wrapped in a see-through, removable acetate cover. 353 pages; 8vo; 353 pages

This is a little book bound by ribbon consisting of three gatherings of paper that have been folded twice each to form four pages of printable surface for a total of 12 pages. The first page serves as a title page and cover, the second is a blank, 3 through 10 are printed, followed by two blanks, one being the back cover. The opening line is "It was a time of sadness, and my heart, ". The book is illuminated (original art) . The illumination on the cover is an angel with the title and a simple line border . The ink for the title and border is black. There is an illumination of a baby's head with wings in the right hand margin on page 3. On page 5, following the poetry, is a small crown. . On page 6, there is a leaning cross. On page 8, the angel is holding the cross. The pages are unnumbered, The book is 7 1/8" tall x 5 1/4" wide. The paper is the same throughout - heavy stock that is darkening faintly at the edges of the first page. A beige ribbon that binds the paper has a few spots of foxing (small brown spots - from an acidic or environmental reaction common to paper and fabric) . The pages are clean. There are no marks or writing. There is a short closed tear on the rear cover at the vertical edge. There is no official title or copyright page. The poet namei is not printed. There is no name or initial for the illuminator. There is no date or publisher or printer name. Charming. Well cared for as the date of printing probably goes back to the last half of the 1800's. ; 8vo; 8 pages

The dust jacket of this large book has an illustration that completely covers the book. The book is delightfully illustrated throughout by Jerzy Srokowski. The illustrations are full page and in color. The condition is good. The binding is tight and there are no marks or writing or wear to the book, however, the blue cloth has faded around the edges of the book. The dust jacket has a touch of wear at the corners - little chips and some short, mostly closed tears. There is a rtiny puncture on the spine with no loss of paper. The jacket looks quite fresh in a new archival, see-through and removable mylar cover The book is clean everywhere. The title on the original edition was Krol Macius Pierwszy, the translator to Germann was Katja Weintraub. Hardcover book in ribbed cloth with gilt design. Published in 1841 as a new, revised edition. Beautifully illustrated with arabesque borders, vignettes, and full plate chromolithograph designs by Owen Jones with heavily inked color and gilt. Other illustrations are in wood engravings and lithograph by William Allan, David Roberts, WIlliam SImson, Henry Warren, C. E. Aubrey, William Harvey. A delightful introduction to Spanish literature and folklore. This work is mentioned in the book Victorian Book Design by Ruari McLean . This is considered one of the finest and earliest gift books. Lockhart was a Scottish novelist, biographer, and editor and is known for his work related to Scott and Burns. Some of the pages with chromolithographs have started to fox at the fore-edge (foxed - small brown spots, an acidic reaction from impurities in the paper or from the environment) . The color of the cloth has been reapplied and the top and bottom of the spine has been reinforced with perfectly matching colored archival material. Clean end papers. ; 4to

The blue cloth covers have a gilt design cover and spine. The gilt is becoming worn, especially on the spine. The cloth is quite clean. There are two slight bumps tothe top corners. There is a beautiful art nouveau bookplate with the name Aurelia Toulmin engraved on the plate. All plates (30) by Copping are present. There are additional illustrations: facsimiles of pages from the manuscript of "Nicholas Nickleby' and Queen Victoria's autograph inscription.
