This is a hardcover book in 1/2 leather and marbled paper over book covers. In French. The leather is dark Morocco with gilt title on the spine, raised bands, decorative devices. The marbling is in blue and gray. The end papers are marbled, the top edges are gilt. There is a former owner bookplate on the front end paper. There is some rubbing to othe rear end paper. There is a tiny stamp on the copyright page and a faint trace of a pencil erasure on the end paper. The interior pages are crisp and clean. The leather shows some scuffing on the fold line. There is some corner wear to the marbled paper. Tight , clean. Photo illustrated in black and white small photos. There is a small black and white fold out map of the intinerary of De La Vaulx. The book is covered in a rich red cloth with a black ink border and title, and a decorative gilt filled blind stamped (reverse of embossing) design. There is a map of Florida on the end papers. The covers are bright and clean with a light touch of a bump to the upper corners. The binding is tight. The interior pages are all crisp and clean. However, the front end papers have a plate stating the name of the person who owned the book on one side and a note and date in ink with the owner's name and a number in red that has been written over with a different number in pencil. There are no other marks or writing. There is a minimal of wear. Aside from the former owner name, the book is in near fine condition. Well cared for. This is a softcover portfolio (booklet form) containing 22 images of Salt Lake City and without text except for a legend and background on each of the images. The artist is Nathaniel I. Gornick. The prints look like etchings, including plate marks, however the printing method is 'Genuine Albertype Reproductions' (printed by The Albertype Company of Brooklyn, N. Y.. The cover is a heavy cream colored, quality card stock paper printed with the title of the image and displaying "The Open Gate' by Gornick. Each of the other pages are also on the same paper. The booklet is bound by a cord with a tassle. The binding is tight. The booklet is very clean and crisp. There are two tiny age spots on the front cover. The booklet came in a portfolio envelope which is no longer in good shape, but it has protected the booklet wel and will be shipped with the booklet. Each image is titled. The artist's name (initials and last name) are printed below the image along with the title. The image on the covers counts as one of the twenty-two prints. There are two smaller ones on one page and all the other images are full page. Many of the images are of Mormon interest. Gornick is a recognized artist whose original works were released through Associated Artists of America along with the works of name artists such as Thomas Hart Benson. The art work is of a nice quality. This booklet is still in gift condition after 75 + years. ; 4to

Fred Harvey is the founder of the first restaurant chain - the history goes back to 1875. Harvey worked with the Santa Fe Railway to establish eating places along the railroad routes. He is famous for the food and expanded to promotion of art by and about Native Americans. He is famous because of the uniforms that the waitresses wore. The waitresses became known as the Harvey Girls. John McCutcheon was the political cartoonist for newspapers. He won the Pulitzer Prize for cartoons in 1932. This book is in fine condition.
