21 Curtis, G. W. PRUE AND I
The Aldine Publishing Company N.D. Hardcover 
This is a leather bound Aldine Edition of this hardcover book. The book has a tight binding and a handsome tan Moroccon leather and marbled paper binding. The spine is gilt decorated with leather title and author bands. The boards are marbled paper with leather corners. There is a water stain on the leather on the bottom of the spine. There is some corner edge wear. The marbled end paper hinge is reinforced on the bottom. There is a former owner name and date (1904) on the front free end paper and a trace of a pencil price erasure on the first blank page. The last name of the former owner is neatly written on the title page as well. The top edges are gilt. There is a portrait frontispiece of George William Curtis. Curtis was, among other occupations, the editor of Harper's Weekly starting in 1863.; 8vo; 271 pages

Beautiful large hardcover edition of this classic translated into English by Albert Smith and beautifully illustrated with full page plates and in text illustrations in toned photogravures (photoengravings) . Red cloth boards with black decorative pattern, gilt title. Pattern and gilt are partially faded on cover and quite faded on the spine. Light soiling and shelfwear to extremities. Though the binding is very tight, both paper endpapers have previously broken and have been reinforced. Decorative floral endpapers in gold and white - the front free end paper has three chips from the lower right corner. The paper used for the end papers is delicate. The text is printed on heavy bond paper with gilt top edge, deckled fore and bottom edges. There are some light areas of foxing within the text and more pronounced foxing on the tissue guards for the plates. Illustrated with 36 exquisitely rendered photogravures by Albert Lynch and E. Duez. ; Large 8vo; 170 pages

This is a Limited Edition book (#206 of 300) , hand-set on hand made paper in two colors of a work authored by Eugene Field. There is a Preface providing background, a frontispiece of Field, some little drawings and photos. The book also includes an eight panel fold out of pages fromm the Field manuscript. The cover is think board covered in beige paper with a shadow of an illustration showing through of a devil and a friar. The condition is near fine in some ways - ribbon binding, pages, illustrations, end papers - tight, bright crisp. There is a touch of wear at three of the corners - paper frayed at the tips. There is a neat repair at the top and bottom of the spine. The most serious is the fold-out. The paper used is a little brittle compared to the pages and is torn leaving three sections that have been laid in. It can be easily reinforced with archival tape for those who wish to read this manuscript which was published in the Sharps and Flats column of the Chicago Daily News. The publisher-editor's markings are also shown. There is a trace of a pencil price erasure and no other marks or writing. Quite clean throughout. In this story of the two friars and how they lost the rarest book in all the world, the two sains are 'slightly disquised members of the "Saints and Sinners Club" (Chicago) . ; 8vo

This is a 16 volume set in leather and marbled boards from a limited edition of 774 copies, this being number 420. (This set will only be sold within the United States) . It is a handome, complete set in blue Moroccan leather 3/4 spines and corners with blue-gilt marbled paper over the book board covers. The top edges are gilt, fore-edges are untrimmed, end papers marbled, with some Illustrations and tissude guards in each volume. The spines have raised bands with a gilt flower design and titles. The covers and interior pages are very clean. Some careful, professional repair has been done to some of the spines. The very edge of some of the marbled boards show light wear. The interior hinges are very tight with no breaks. The leather on the edges of the spine is a little fragile on some of the volumes - some show a hint of faint breaks in the leather mostly at the middle of the spine. There is a small triangle shape lifted from the marbled cover on one volume. Some volumes have an etched , tasteful, armorial bookplate of the former owner.
