This is a handsome five volume hardcover set. The covers are brown cloth in tight bindings with paper labels one the spines. The condition is generally very good with minimal cover wear, coated end papers, tight bindings, clean interior pages. There are, however, former owner bookplates and signatures. The bookplate is on the pasted down end paper of each volume - a fine art lithograph for Josiah Beatie Moss and Mary Leach Moss. Another owner has written her name on the first blank page and has pasted in some small period art depictions of famous people. The books appear neat and crisp in acetate see-through, removable protectors. Five volumes - will require extra postage if shipped by air. This is a hardcover book of 416 pages published in 1873. The book has a green cloth cover with bright gilt titles on the front and spines. There is a fold out map and eleven full page illustrations with tissue guards. There are many illustrations with the text throughout the book. The book has a tight binding. The front lower corner has a little wear on the bottom corners. There is a slight touch of wear at the top of the spine. The gilt on the spine had dulled a little. A former owner gift note has been written in pencil on the front end paper which is a dark brown and coated paper as used in the 1870's . The pages are crisp and clean. The map is in color. It has a closed tear which has been professionally repaired on the reverse side using Japanese tissue archival paper. The map is crisp and new looking in every other way. There is an Index and four pages of book advertising by the publisher. The title page includes the date1873 and matches the copyright page - it is the Harper and Brothers first edition. It was published in the same year in London. In spite of a few faults the book gives the impression that it was well cared for. ; 8vo; 416 pages

Thomas Adolphus Trollope was the brother of Anthony Trollope. The book has maroon cloth covers a title in gilt on the spine. There is a touch of cloth fraying at the tips of the corners and the bottom of the spine. There are a couple of tiny holes at the spine. Firm binding. Clean. The interior pages are crisp and clean except for a spot on the rear end paper that is offset on the other end paper and diminishing shodows of the spot are on three adjacent pages. There are two tiny spots on the fore edge (front edges) There is a former owner name in light pencil on the front free end paper and a couple of notes in faint pencil by the same owner on two other pages. The book has numerous marginalia or underlinging in an ink script, some appearing to contradict the book content or cross-refer encing the content to other sources of information, some of which document published amendements. The frontispiece is missing. Numerous black and white illustrations are uncollated, but will collate on request, if necessary. This is a hardcover Volume 3 published in 1696, bound in leather. Text In Latin. There are 714 pages of text and 24 pages of Index. There are two modest ex-lib indicators; , a modest label of a library in Kansas indicating a donation and a blank paper sticker on the spine, not used. The covers are a polished calf with a simple center double bordered blind stamp with modest decorative corners, also blind stamped. The spine has five raised bands with the author's name and Volume number (3) in the second compartment in gilt. The binding hinges are quite strong. There is a clean break in the leather along the front top vertical edge - a length equivalent to two bands. The interior hinges are also strong. Only a portion of the rear free end paper is present. The front free end paper has the names of two former owner names and an inscription of owner transfer in 1849 (Thad A. Culbertson and Rev. John M. Knight (or John McKnight ? ) , at Chambersburg) . The donation was made in 1888; received from Dr. R. M. Hays, Manhattan, Kans. , with the signature of the Librarian. The leather shows some of the polish, plus scuffing. The end papers have some darkening. The pages are clean, with a good impression of ink, but many pages have even foxing. The margins are annotated as printed. There are no other marks or writing. The page edges are darkened. Half of the head band is missing. Volume 3 only. ; Vol. 3; 8vo; 738 pages
