This is a 2 volume set of 20th Century Drawings in hardcover with slipcases. Part 1 is 1900-1940; Part 2 is 1940 to the Present (meaning 1964, the year of publication. The books are in near fine condition and the slipcases are in fair to good condition. The bindings are tight, the covers are clean, there are no flaws, there is a possible miniscule shade of darkening to the spines. The interior end papers and pages are crisp and clean. There area bout 6 pages of text in each book and the remainder of the book is full page images of a wide variety of modenr artists - in color and black and white. Media, sizes, and credits are listed. There are short single paragraphs at the rear of the book about the artists, plus a bibliography. Each volume has about 141 pages each. The slipcases are paper covered and show some wear at the edges and corners. There is a faint water mark on one, and each has a circular remnant of shadoe and rough surface from removal of price stickers. The books have been well cared for, the slipcases were not meant to sustain handlings - simply made. Each has a different art image pasted down (by intention of the publishers) . It is a collection of comments and sentiments of famous men and women written in their handwriting and signed by them, then printed in facsimile in this book - one person to a page. There are 58 tributes in Part 1 including the President (Harrison) , eight of the Supreme Court Justices, the Shah of Persia, many authors - Hardy, Kipling, Jewett, Field, Holmes, Howe, Deland, and P. Tschaikowsky ( bar of music) . There are 84 tributes in Part 2.. The full sub-title wording is: Being a Collection of Autograph Sentiments Contributed by Famous Men and Women for the Volume. Done in Fac -Simile and Published for the Benefit of the Chldren's Home, of the World's Columbian Exposition. Some of the letters and notes have letter heads, some have little drawings or some art - all in black and white. The calico cloth covers have some spotting as does the vellum parchment spine. The interior of the book is in near find condition, however the cover has some black marks that appear to have transferred something from an adjacent book - perhaps the look of black tape that might have rubbed against the front cover - it affects the bottom right quadrant of the cover. There is a short closed tear across the spine and into the front cover a little. There is a little discoloration to the cover spine and some edges and there are two scuffs to the edge of the book that extends beyond the edge of the text black. Some pages have not been opened. This is a First Edition hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book belongs to the series of Batsford Books - a combination of text background on the subject a Frontispiece and 15 plates that are blank on the reverse side. Nicely colored with careful detail with a caption below that emphasizes needlework, fabric, etc. , plus the use for the dress. Court dress, Walking dress, etc.. Each plate is numbered next to the caption with notes containing emphasis and explanations. The Frontispiece has a border of scarves, hats, bows, feathers, belts. All plates are in color. The binding is tight, the book has a neatly written former owner gift note on the front free end paper corner - dated 1951. There is a small moisture mark on the lower right corner. The book interior is clean and crisp. The plates are pristine. The books is paper covered, not cloth. The dust jacket has another scene in color. There is some darkening at the top and bottom edges. The soft paper jacket has wear at the points where the jacket is folded over the spine and the fore edges. There are a couple of short closed tears and minimal small chips at the corners. Generally clean, unclipped, and now protected from any further wear by a new, archival, see-through, removable mylar cover that makes the book look bright and fresh..; 8vo

This is a softcover book published during the World War I period, no date is specified - about 1919. The War Camp Community Service was a homefront orgnaization formed to raise money and rally support for the military soldiers. Many towns and their residents were adjacent to military training stations or convalescent sites. One of the activities was finding entertainment for the soldiers on an evening leave. This included games for children as wellas the convalescent. This book refers to couples and players. A typed letter size paper is folded and enclosed with this book. It is addressed to war camp workers and recommends a book of table card games for the convalescent and provides a overview of the contents. It is dated June 20, 1919. The book has 1, 2, or 3 games on each of the 23 pages following the title, foreword, and contents. The cover is a soft art paper. It has an embossed label of the War Camp Community Service on the cover along with the title.. The binding is soundly stapled. There is a light crease at the lower front corner of the cover and the first page which is blank. There is a former owner name in the upper right corner. There is a short, closed tear on the bottom edge of the last few pages. There are no other marks or writing. The price includes the letter promoting the book about card games for convalescents. ; 8vo; 28 pages

There is a large fold out map of Paris. There is a map at the front of the underground transportation routes. The book looks like it was barely used. The large fold out map of Paris is in near perfect condition. The map in the front has a slight extra crease at one of the folds. Very clean. SIGNED. This is a tall softcover auction catalog from the auction house of Kornfeld and Klipstein for auction 151 held in June of 1974.. The bright red cover Is printed with the title (above) and the name of the auction house and a large facsimile of the monogram of Albrecht Durer. The reverse side of the front cover has an inscription (name of female) and is signed "Gift from E. Kornfeld"; . Kornfeld's name was Eberhard W. Kornfeld. There are 41 pages of printed text related to the auction items and 39 pages of images. There are five images of Claude Lorrain in a heliiogravure type printing. One is a full page, blank on the revese; two fold-outs printed on one side each, two prints back-to-back on one fold-out. All other images are black and white half tone on glossy paper. There is a light touch of wear at the corners. The covers and pages are very clean. This appears to have been an auction of important artists, including Rembrandt, Piranesi, Tiepolo, Montegna. ; 4to; 80 pages; Signed by Author
