84 Evans, Robley D. A SAILOR'S LOG Recollections of Forty Years of Naval Life
London Smith, Elder And Company 1901 First English Edition Hardcover
This is a first edition hardcover book in good condition. The condition would be considered near fine except for two flaws. There is a bump to the front cover bottom edge. The same bump caused a small dent on some bottom edges of the pages and a slight closed tear on about 20 pages. The other flaw is a former owner stamp in colored ink with the owner's name and a 'request' to return the book - it is on the title page below the author's name. In every other way the book has been well cared for. Tight, bright, crisp, clean. There are no other marks and there is no writing. The end papers are black coated paper with no chips or tears. The interior pages are very crisp and appear to be unread. The book has half-tone images of prints related to the author and various ships and scenes. There is a tissue guard over the portrait of the author adjacent to the title page (frontispiece) . The beginning chapters are title "Life in Virginia before the war", "With the Indians and buffalo". "In the Mormon Country", "A Cadet at Annapolis", The British Smith, Elder and Company edition was published in the same year with the D. Appleton and Co. Edition. ; 8vo; 407 pages
