This is a tall, think booklet with cover art by Antonio Rodriquez Luna. There are several paragraphs of text by Charles Seeger, Chief, Music Division (Pan American Union) There is a Preface by Alan Lomax and another by Gustavo Duran in English. Duran translated the original work. The music lyrics are in Spanish, and the introduction to each is in English. The look of the pages appear to be typed manuscript style. There is a hand drawn map of the area of Texas and five surrounding states. The cover art of Rodriguez Luna (a listed artist) is of three singing cowboys, a horse, cactus, and adobe looking building (black and white) . The booklet is inserted in a new custom cover made of archival beige art paper bound in thread with a newly printed label. Protection for the covers of the booklet. No glue has been used. The booklet is clean, fresh, and with a krinkle to some pages near the spine. The edges are crisp. There is a pinpoint puncture of a former library name on the title page, barely visible. This is a text, art, and music history book on paper. ; 4to; 20 pages

This is a hardcover book in a dust jacket. 1960 copyright, 623 pages. The book is in quite nice condition on the covers andn pages - tight binding, square corners, clean and bright. Fine end papers and pages - crisp and clean. No marks or writing. No creases. There is a touch of soil where the text block touched the shelf on the bottom pages and a slightly dull look to the top edges with a sprinkle of lines that show that a outline of a sprinkle of water on the top edges - no ripples, no damage. The dust jacket is quite worn because of the size and weight of the book - chips and wrinkles at the corners and top and bottom of the spine. The jacket is unclipped - original price ($7.50) . The jacket is now protected in an archival, see-through, removable mylar cover. The end papers are cleverly illustrated with a map of most of the U S with color references to the types off folk music by areas of the country. . A sub-title on the jacket states: "Words, music and origins of over 300 folk songs, including such old time favorites as John Henry, Shenandoah, Barbara Allen, Sweet Betsy, and The Old Chisholm Trail as well as scores of lesser known, authentic chanteys, ballads, work songs, and spritituals. " Melodies and guitar chords transcribed by Peggy Seeger. With one hudred piano arrangements by Matyas Seiber and Don Banks. Illustrated by Michael Leonard. Music and lyrics. Songs numbered.
