This is a little book bound by ribbon consisting of three gatherings of paper that have been folded twice each to form four pages of printable surface for a total of 12 pages. The first page serves as a title page and cover, the second is a blank, 3 through 10 are printed, followed by two blanks, one being the back cover. The opening line is "It was a time of sadness, and my heart, ". The book is illuminated (original art) . The illumination on the cover is an angel with the title and a simple line border . The ink for the title and border is black. There is an illumination of a baby's head with wings in the right hand margin on page 3. On page 5, following the poetry, is a small crown. . On page 6, there is a leaning cross. On page 8, the angel is holding the cross. The pages are unnumbered, The book is 7 1/8" tall x 5 1/4" wide. The paper is the same throughout - heavy stock that is darkening faintly at the edges of the first page. A beige ribbon that binds the paper has a few spots of foxing (small brown spots - from an acidic or environmental reaction common to paper and fabric) . The pages are clean. There are no marks or writing. There is a short closed tear on the rear cover at the vertical edge. There is no official title or copyright page. The poet namei is not printed. There is no name or initial for the illuminator. There is no date or publisher or printer name. Charming. Well cared for as the date of printing probably goes back to the last half of the 1800's. ; 8vo; 8 pages
