This is a well cared for tourist guide of Birmingham from 1939. There is a list of places of interest to a tourist and an index to streets and places. There are 64 pages of maps that are quite clear and in color. The covers are a bright red cloth hardcover with black ink border and title. The book is tight, bright, crisp except for a little touch of wear to the corners. There is a small spot on the rear cover. A former owner has stamped a name on each side of the front end paper. There are no other marks or writing. The contents are quite bright and neat. Carefully used, if at all. ; 8vo

Tight and clean hardback book. Green ribbed cloth with blindstamped border and ornate gilt crest on front cover and blindstamped on the back cover. The spine title is in gilt and also ornate. There is slight wear to the top of the spine and the corners. The binding is very tight. The former owner name , date, and a note is on the front free end paper with an offsetting impression on the pasted down end paper. There is an engraving of London Bridge as a frontispiece. The tissue guard is foxed. (brown spotting) . The pages are quite clean. A travel diary of a 'Traveller and Teacher' on board a Cunard ship and in Europe. H. From sailing ships, to commercial, to military, to commuter, to cruise ships, to yachts, plus towage and salvage. Well cared for - tight binding, sea blue cloth with bright gilt border and title on the front cover and gilt title on the spine. Very clean with no marks, no writing, no wear. The end papers are crisp and clean with only a faint hint of a pencil price erasure in the corner of the front free paper. The book is heavy because of the sturdy binding and the glossy quality paper. May require a little extra postage depending on the destination and method of shipping. ; 4to; 148 pages

This is a hardcover book guide without a date. The fonts on the cover make it look like a turn of the century book, the contents and paper indicate a 1950's date. The book is comprised of many varieties of Indexes and maps. The only page in text is one page in both French and English. The streets of Paris are tabbed alphabetically for quick reference. Following the streets there are batches of convenient reference for Tourist offices, theatres, hippodromes, bookstores, ministers, hospitals, embassies, There are colored maps of divisions of the city with numeric tabs. There is a large fold out map of Paris. There is a map at the front of the underground transportation routes. The book looks like it was barely used. The large fold out map of Paris is in near perfect condition. The map in the front has a slight extra crease at one of the folds. Very clean. There are no marks or writing other than a former owner name and address. The covers are in brown cloth with a silver metallic ink title on the front cover. Tight binding. Crisp. Well organized content. ; 8vo

In French. This is a hardcover/flexible book in a dust jacket that would be considered in very good plus and near fine condition if not for a former owner name on the end paper and a French name in ink on the title page. The binding is tight, the book looks crisp and it is clean. There is a little fading of the gilt on the cover and two possible tape marks on the inside of the dust jacket. The dust jacket is fresh and clean. There is a faint touch of some edge wear in places. Not clipped. There are two ribbon markers to hold a place in the book - in new condition. There are 1049 pages and there no other marks or writing. Well cared for. The book covers many places in France with detail and small maps set with in the text. The end papers have maps. There is a lengthy and detaile d alphabetical index. In French. This book is heavy and thick and could require a little extra postage if shipped internationaly. ; 8vo; 1049 pages

This is a book and map atlas published in 1930 and written in Italian covering the area of Venezia Guilia Croazia - Slovenia (Venice and the northwest corner of Italy and across the border into Croatia - Slovenia including Zagreb - the northwest area of what was once called Yugoslavia. ) This is a book with a flexible cover made of heavy weight grey art paper backed with fabric for strength. There are 142 pages of text in Italian and with 9 of 10 maps with two pasted down maps at the front and rear on the interior of the covers. Map 3 is missing except for one panel . Those present are 1 and 2, plus 4 though 10. The book appears to be published by the Ministero della Guerra which is printed on the title pages which is on the cover of the book. The rear of the book includes another map on the rear panel showing three geographica areas within the area described above and titled "Teatro di operazioni Italo-Jugoslavo". The areas shown in the map are numbered 5, 6, 7. This is Monografia Geografica N. 6 for Venezia Giulia Croazia-Slovenia and specifically the Linea di Operazioni Fiume - Zagabria. In the upper right hand corner of the front cover 'Copia No and a line are printed in the corner and the number '4' is stamped on the line. There is another stamp showing "Pubblicazione No 341R". It also states Capitolo 26 in due (2) volumi. This is Volume 1. The text covers the terrain and features with quite a lot of detail, including pronounciation and much more in an Appendix.. The binding is strong, but delicate in that the block of text and maps weighs about one pound and it is sewn to the cover, without glue. The top and bottom of the spine shows wear with some chipping. There is a small label with a border that has the number 10 written on it in red pencil. There is some rice paper reinforcement of the extremes of the spine in a blending tone to match the grey of the covers. The front cover has some smudges. The interior pages of text in Italian are clean and crisp except for some short vertical lines in pencil in the margin next to specific lines. There is a small oval stamp on the first page, plus some alpha and numeric characters in pencil in the margin. There are two small stamps at the rear of the book which says 'Withdrawn' in English. There are no other marks or writing. The maps are on strong paper with several fold marks. The first map is the largest at approximately 24 x 24 inches with black ink and a beige-buff shading to certain areas. The other maps are a little smaller with red and blue lines to marks roads or pass through, plus some solid coloring. .. The maps are in very good condition - there is a touch of darkening at the edges that doesn't affect the face of the map. There is a short closed tear at the hinge of the map stub which has been reinforced from the rear with archival Japanese paper. The book is about 8 " tall, 5 " wide, and 1" thick. Number 6, in Italian, 9 out of 10 fold-out maps, plus three other small maps on the end papers and the rear cover. This book is not commonly listed on the internet. Fiume / Rijeka; 8vo

This is the ninth edition (1892) hardcover ex-library book with full library markings. There are four city plans and only two (out of four) maps according to the Table of Contents. The City Plans are: St. John, Halifax, Quebec, Montreal and the two Maps are: The Basin of Minas and the Old Acadian Land - and - Map of the Saguenay River. All the plans and maps are fold outs of at least three panels. The book is not pretty, but will come with an art paper cover that will allow the book to look good on the shelf. The binding is tight and the pages are clean. The cover is red cloth with a leather grain simulation. The spine is darkened and not quite readable, there are faint library call numbers and a painted dot of yellow and a chip at the top of the spine. There is some darkening around the edges of the ront and back cover and some corner wear.. There Is a title in gilt on the front cover - "Sweeter's Maritime Pronvinces". There is a library pocket pasted down on the inside end paper with a check in/out card which has been stamped several times. The end paper was an advertisement, now covered. There is a blank piece of paper pasted down on the front free end paper (also an advertisement) . There are several pages of interesting advertising at the front and rear of the book - mostly for companies and businesses in Massachusetts. The library name is perforated in pin like dots on some of the front pages. The library name is stamped on all edges. The top edge is darkened. One of the folds in Halifax mas has been repaired with Japanese archival rice-tissue paper. Reading copy, but with an art paper cover for appearance. There are 336 pages including a detailed Index, plus advertising. ; 8vo

This is a softcover booklet of 26 pages with an art paper cover and a stapled binding. There is a photograph of the Singing Tower and its reflection in the water in the foreground. Pasted on. The blank is back excpt for the name of the Director, H. M. Nornabell and the 25 cent price. Five photographers are listed on the inside of the cover - Morse, Rittase, Geisler, Can Natta, Alexander. There is a 1946 copyright by The American Foundation Incorporated. The first page includes words about the Tower and Sanctuary being dedicated by Clavin Coolidge in 1929. There is a foreword by Edward W. Bok and an adjacent portrait printed in sepia ink. In termingled with the text are phtographs of the locale, carillon, organ, architectural detail, organ, flamingo, fountains.. There is a beautiful double spread of the Tower and trees in color at the center of the booklet. The front cover has a soft crease at the lower corner. There is a shading to the front cover from sun exposure. Clean. The interior is crisp and clean. A nice keepsake on art paper with a matte finish. ; Small 4to; 26 pages

This is a hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book and jacket look unused - tight, bright, and very clean. There are two places where there is a hint of a water/moisture line and a touch of rippling - not that noticeable. The covers are a bright red cloth with bright gilt titles on the cover and spine - very clean and with no wear. The dust jacket is equally crisp and clean. The back panel of the jacket shows a little rippling if examined closely. There are no marks or writing in the book, however there is a former owner book ownership plate on the reverse of the half-title page. There are five fold out maps in fine condition - USSR, European Russsia, Moscow, Leningrad, Crimea. There are other maps throughout the book included with the text. All the pages are crisp, clean, and in English. The bottom corners of three of the pages near the back of the book had creases. There is a silky red page marker to save a place in the book. Meant to take along on a trip, this book did not leave the book room shelf. ; 8vo; 832 pages

This is a books with handsome cloth, flexible covers and a hand sewn binding using silk cord in the Japanese style. The cloth has brown and gilt ink design. The contents contain three books, each with variable reprinting dates - ninth, sixth, second printings all with the latest printings from 1950. The book is printed on delicate paper that is in fine condition. Each oblong piece of paper used in the book was bound at the open ends so that a fold is at the front edge (fore-edge) which provides strength. Illustrated in black and white line drawings and photos in half-tone process, some with poor distinction due to rerprintings. All illustrations are within the text. The title page references 889 illustrations. The book is 600 pages - the book is about 1 1/2" thick. Quarto = 8 3/8" tall. The covers are delightfully fresh as are the pages. There is a hint of a vertical crease in the center of the front cover. There is thread wear on the rear upper corners and the top of the spine. The book comes in a soft paper floral book cover that shows wear with some tears and chips. Charming publication. The contents emphasize the culture, customs, arts, objects, and short bits of history. ; 8vo

The maps are in fine condition - crisp, well cared for. Itineraires au Maroc de Mr. Eudgene Aubin 1902-1903 with seven neat folds; Fez with three folds; Environs de Fez with five folds. All maps are in lithgraphic color; subtle to bright for the Fez map. There is one soft crease on the third map at one small corner. The covers are delicate and a little overall worn because of the flexibility of the paper. There is a little chipping at the bottom of the spine and some on the sides, again at the bottom.
