1 ITALIAN SWISS COLONY Six Advertising Pamphlets from 1930's; Some with Recipes
San Francisco, CA Italian Swiss Colony First Edition Softcover 
This is a small collection of brochures/pamphlets published around 1932/3 based on other items. They are all about 5 1/4" tall x 3 1/2" wide. They are long pieces of paper that have been folded into the size described. Two are recipes with tinted ink - one is blue-green, the other a soft magenta. Illustrated. The titl es are Wind in Cooking, Outstanding Recipes of Famous San Francisco Chefs and Party Wine Punches and Wind Cocktails. There are about 15 recipes each - food and drinks . A third brochure is The Romance of Asti - three panels printed on both sides. There is a menu and history on the fourth - Sandwich Plates 1, 2, 3 - for 35c each. Edmund A. Rossi wrote the fifth - an article titles What Is Wine, The Science and Chemistry of Wine. It was an address he presented to the House Ways and Means Committee in Washington on December 10, 1932. The sixth is a single folded page printed on both side titled "Important Information on The Handling and Care of Wines. ; 12mo

This is a hardcover book without a jacket (as designed) . The covers are durable, the binding is tight, the book is in gift condition. Very clean, pristine, crisp. No marks or writing. No soil. No wear except for a very faint slight surface scratch on the cover. The paperback edition is a little hard to find; this hardcover edition is less easy to find. The cover has a close up of two cookies with M & M's on the top of the cookies. There is a metallic gold foil label with the logo and words Land O Lakes Collectors Series at the center top of the book (not worn) . Many full page and page and a half close-up color photographs in nicely arranged backgrounds of table settings, boxes, trays, trees, holidays. ISBN in the book is 08675739544. ; 8vo; 128 pages

St. Paul, MN Order Eastern Star 1938 First Edition Softcover 
This is a soft cover cook book published in St. Paul, MN by the Order (of the) Eastern Star associated with the Montgomery Lodge and Montgomery Masonic Temple. . There are os all the typical recipes of the time period (1938) and the location. There are many pages with small advertiseme nts for businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul. One is a full page for Baker's Chocolate for General Foods of Battle Creek, MI. In color The book as a few little flaws - a faint white round spot at the bottom of the front cover - a dark spot on the last 8 pages and the cover at the bottom. There is a trace of an erasure for a former price in pencil. The cover extends past the page edges (yap edges) and are lightly worn - mostly at the bottom corners (front and Back) . There is a black and white photo of the Montgomery Masonic Temple in the interior. ; 8vo; 82 pages

The end papers and pages are equally clean and crisp. There are no marks or writing. The dust jacket is in good condition. There is chipping at ther corners and the back upper edge. The price has been clipped. The jacket is now protected by a new archival see-through, removable mylar cover. Delightful color illustrations by Guy Huze. Line drawings by William F. M. Kay. The dust jacket has a light touch of corner wear and top and bottom edge wear, light spotting on the back panel. The original price of the book is present. Well cared for in general. The jacket is in a new archival, see-through, removable mylar cover. Bergeron was assisted by Shirley Jarvis. The illustrations (pleasant line drawings in black ink) are by Jane Walsworth. Lots of recipes - most are from the Caribbean and the Bahamas - some recipes are associated with resorts and famous hotels and restaurants or bars. The last section of the cookery section is pies and candy. The last recipe in this section is Rum White Fudge. ; 8vo; 229 pages

This is a fun cookbook in soft cover published around the time of the Carter presidency. No date is printed . The book publisher was the owner of a successful Minnesota real estate company. The first page has two recipes - one by Rosalyn Carter, the other by Joan Mondale with Rosyln Carter and Walter Mondale facsimile signatures. The next 25 pages are recipes of Senators of that time including Strom Thurmond (Pecan Pie) , Muriel Humphrey (Beef Stew) , Barry Goldwater (Arizona's Fine Chile) , Adlai Stephenson (Brunswick Stew) . Pages 27-30 are recipes of famous people, Princess Grace (Farcis - Stuffed Vegetables) , Lucille Ball (Lucy's Sunday Night Supper for Two or Twenty) . There are facsimiles of the signatures. There are the Ohio State Apple Pie winners. Recipes by categories with names, and the inside of the back cover has four Minnesota recipes, including Elegant Poached Lake Trout. The cook book is near fine. There are no marks or writing. There is a little touch of paper loss on the front cover from a small piece of pricing tape that was removed. TIght, bright, clean, crisp - no tears or other wear. No marks No writing. There is a bright orange business card paper pasted on the inside of the front cover. ; 8vo; 112 pages

This is a well cared for hardcover book with a copyright of 1927 and assumed to be the first edition. The cover is red cloth with a handsome gilt filled, blind-stamped border on the cover surrounding the title. The book is profusely illustrated with full page color photographs of cakes decorated in the style of the 1920's - for all occasions and themes. There is a cake decorated with daisy frosting flowers and the words "Daisies Won't Tell". The binding is tight, covers are clean with a hint of bottom front corner wear. The interior is fine except for a former owner inscription. There is a trace of a pencil price erasure. Delightful. Pages crisp and clean. Gift condition book, except for two little flaws - two tiny holes In the tissue guard covering over the portrait of the author-cook. The title in gilt on the spine is darkened, but readable. ; 8vo; 99 pages
