1 A JEWISH SYNAGOGUE Print from 1870's
1870 
This is a steel engraving of A Jewish Synagogue, engraved by Ebenezer Challis after a painting by Solomon Hart. There is a lushness of ink in dark shading of the interior lit by candles. The print is double matted in archival matboard and the outside dimensions are cut for standard size, ready-made frames (frame not included) . The print is on heavy stock paper that has been hinged to the matboard opening, not pasted down. The print has been backed by acid free paper, placed on foamcore, then wrapped in acetate. The print can be hung on the wall temporarily as the acetate has a glassy look. The print is very clean. The outside dimensions of the matboard is 18" high x 14" wide. The inside dimensions of the window opening is 10 1/2" high x 8 1/2" wide. ; -

The American Geographical Society 1922 Hardcover 
This is a reprint of the 1735 document put into book form by The American Geographical Society in 1922. It is in a slipcase and has a map bound in and a three page brochure from The Society offering background is laid in. This book is a limited edition, # 663 of 790. The map facsimile is bound in and has six panels in what would be considered fine condition if not for a 1/4" corner crease. The map title is "A Map of Virginia according to Captain John Smiths Map Published Anno 1606 Also of the Adjacent Country called by the Dutch Niero Nederlant nno 1630 bt John Senex 1735. The border and boundaries are highlighted in three colors. The paper is handmade. It was printed by Douglas C. McMurtrie at the Conde Nast Press in Greedwich. The covers are beige-taupe paper with a vellum paper spine. There is a faint darkening on the spine. There is no title. There are no marks or writing on the end papers or pages. However, there are two spots on the first two pages where the paper contains a flaw on each page (bottom corners) . The slipcase has some wear, now repaired, at the bottom of the back and other slight wear to the corners. The slipcase is covered in the same paper as the book - nicely designed. ; 8vo; 20 pages

This book of 60 pages is a history of Browning illustrated with half tone black and white photographs and drawings - portraits, scenes, places, and many guns. Some photos are close-up and others are distance views. This is a softcover book with a stapled binding. The book has been well cared for except for a spot in the shape of quarter of a circle as if a drink had been set on it. The remainder of the cover is quite clean . There is a touch of slight corner wear at the front edges. The interior is crisp and clean - no marks, no writing, no wear. ; 8vo; 60 pages

This is a book published as a tribute to paper making in 'America', in particular the Rittenhouse Mill and William Rittenhouse. It is a small booklet of 22 pages including the self-covers of the same hand made paper. It was hand set using a variety of font styles and a simple, crude decorative border. Old spelling and phrasing is used - heartie, Yr obedient Servant, etc. There are woodcuts of the Rittenhouse home, the William Bradford Printing House, watermarks, map of Philadelphia & Environs, Almanacks. The book includes a poem about paper-making. This book was made by the Eastwood Wire Corp of Belleville, NJ. Their wire was used 'to supply Fourdrinier & cylinder wires to the Leading Mills (sic) of this country'. ; 8vo; 22 pages

This is a soft cover book / booklet - a Souvenir Program for a Chautauqua presentation in Muscatine, Iowa in 1913. This is a stapled paper cover booklet in ver good plus to near fine condition. The binding is tight, the paper and condition is in near pristine condition, crisp, clean, bright. There is one small faint spot on the front cover and a short (1/4") closed tear on the cover - now repaired with archival, nearly invisible tape on the inside of the cover. There are no marks or writing, no tears, no chips, no creases. The cover is partly Art Nouveau in a green and violet design. The title page indicates that the program is Uner Auspices of Muscatine Civic Association. Names listed are Oscar Gresheim and Prof. Paul F. Voelker. There is advertising of local businesses throughout. Performers are featured, some with black and white photos. There were four performances each day from June 26 through July 4. ; 8vo; 36 pages

This item includes a variety of six monthly periodicals for Los Angeles city employees. Each of the magazines are about 22 to 42 pages with a simple cover of the same paper as the pages. The months for these six magazines are April 1944, Vol XVIII, Number 3; September, 1944 Volume XVIII, Number 7; October 1944 Volume XVIII, Number 8; November 1944. Volume XVIII, Number 9; January 1945, Volume XXII, Number 1; June 1946, Volume 21, Number 6. The cover of the first is the new Simon Bolivar Plaza, others are the Aliso Viaduct Edition, 1944 War Chest, City Hall? . It is possible to see the changes in the art of the cover with these six issues. The area coverage stated on the two first issues are "Valley West Los Angeles, Hollywood, Central, Harbor . Full of news, articles, photographs, lists, announcements, war news, personnel, advertisements. Price is for six issues. Tight and clean, but printed on war paper - with wood pulp, paper has darkened. No marks or writing, however, the top part of the back cover has been removed - the mailing label has been torn off. Otherwise, very good condition. No tears, no smudges, one has a little creasing at the bottom front corner, plus a few pages. ; 4to

17 MIDLAND ILLUSTRATED KANSAS CITY (Hotel Midland)

This is a large hardcover book about commerical businesses in Kansas City in the 1890's. The copyright date is 1899 (by E. S. Hand) . About half of the book is advertisements and the other half consists of detail about a grand hotel in Kansas City. This book was published about 1900.The covers are beveled book boards covered in cream colored paper vellum. "The Midland Kansas City' is blindstamped and filled in gilt on the front cover. The binding is decorative cord. The end papers are a small flower design in brown ink. The beginning pages are all mostly full page advertisements - many are railroad. The book and the text is intended to honor the construction of the hotel, The Midland, completed in1888. The book is printed on smooth cream paper with brown ink. There are numerous line drawings of the hotel, from a cross section of the floor to the spa, kitchen, front desk, power generator, bathroom, neighboring stores, transportation. Ornate letters of every style are used throughout to start the text. A charming book. The covers show soil, the paper covering at the top and bottom of the spine is chipped. The end papers are clean as are the interior pages. The pages are supple and crisp. All edges are a bright gilt. The cord has been replaced. Approximately 10 1/2 inches high x 10 1/2 inches wide. ; 4to

There is a trace of an erasure for a former price in pencil. The cover extends past the page edges (yap edges) and are lightly worn - mostly at the bottom corners (front and Back) . This is a soft cover book with a long title on the cover and a portion of the title on the first page. There is an errata sheet pasted in the reverse side of the cover. The book is profusely illustrated with diagrams, graphs, charts, tables, and formulas. There is a Preface with a date of 1 February 1946. The Table of Contents lists five chapters. The binding is tight, however there is a vertical tear at the bottom of the spine at the rear which is not reinforced. There is a stain at the lower front cover (quarter size) . There is a note in ink at the top of the front corner with initials. There is some soil to the paper covers, but the interior is quite crisp and clean. ; 4to; 312 pages

The title is in gilt on red leather in the second compartment. The leather has started to deteriorate. Quite usable as is.; 8vo; 904 pages
