This is a semi-hardcover book with a leather binding and a title in gilt on the front cover. This is the 1910 edition - 643 pages. The covers have wear at the top and bottom of the spine, partly repaired. The end papers have a split on the front hinge. There is a stain on the upper corner of the front end paper. The frontispiece illustration is missing. The pages are unmarked, crisp, and quite clean. The edges of the paper are tinted red. The binding is tight. ; 8vo; 643 pages

This book contains two volumes of The Ladies Garland and Family Magazine bound in one (binding) . Volume 10, July to December 1846 and Volume 11 from January to June, 1847. The book is 3/4 dark brown leather and pebbled cloth covers. The end papers are marbled in a complimentary design. There are eight hand-colored floral and bird engravings and a number of black and white steel engravings and mezzotints throughout. The spine is titled Ladies Garland and Volume 10. There is decorative gilt as well. The covers have some scuffed corners with some breakthrough of the leather. There is a slight loss of cloth at the fore-edges on the book. There is a small label of a Rochester, NY bookstore on the upper corner of the front end paper. There is a name and place (Laurence, KS) in pencil on the first blank page. There is another name in pencil on the title page. There is another or the same Lawrence, KS name on the verso of the end paper in pencil, plus some very, small words in pencil. The binding is tight, Except for the scuffing, the covers are clean. , There are no marks on the end papers other than what has been described. The pages are fairly clean of smudges, with a touch of foxing throughout, a little heavier in spots. There is also some offsetting from the engravings. Most of the hand-colored engravings are covered in a fine tissue paper. There are some ink splatters on the last dozen or so pages. There is a short tear on the first blank page - repaired with Japanese tissue paper. One of the articles is titled "How to Reform a Husband". The quality of the coloring is good to very good, not as fine as in more dedicated floral books from the same time period. There are 192 pages in each volume. Charming. ; Vol. 10/11/2010; 8vo

This is a hardcover book without a dust jacket, but with an acetate overlay (removable, see-through, and archival) . This book states New Edition on the title page with a date of 1885. The copyright date is 1883. The frontispiece is a layout diagram of a fruit garden. There are line drawings in black ink within the text throughout the book. There are three parts to the book - General Prnciplies, The Nursery, and Varieties of Fruits, Gathering and Preserving Fruits, Diseases, Insects, Implements in Common Use. The covers have some wear at the top and bottom of the spine and a light touch at the corners. The covers are brown cloth with beveled edges, gilt decoration on the front, blind stamped border design and a gilt title with decoration on the spine. The end papers are coated brown with former owner writing in pencil and a hand written piece of paper with a number and writing. There is another former owner name, place, and date in pencil on the first blank page. There is more writing in pencil on the rear blank page and the reverse of the end paper. The pages appear to be unmarked and are still very clean. The front inside hinge has been repaired and there is a chip in the end paper. The binding is firm, the covers are clean. ; 8vo; 516 pages

The dust jacket is equally crisp and clean. Unclipped. Protected in a new archival, see-through and removable mylar cover. Llustrated mostly in black and white with some in color. Preface, eight parts geographically divided, and an Index with Latin names for the plants. The book covers are a simulated fabric (moire) with a nice sheen and light metallic gilt ink title on the cover and spine. Well cared for. The emphasis of the book is on conservation of diversity and endnagered plants. ; 8vo; 348 pages

There are black and white photos and drawings, plus six book plate illustrations in color (photocopies) with tissue guards. There is a preface by Clements dated 1910, the content, Use of Mushrooms, a Glossary and an extensive Index. The book covers show some wear - the threads show on the spine, especially at the top and bottom. There is a dark spot on the front cover, the threads broke through on the bottom corners. The end papers are clean. There is a repair to part of the front interior hinge using archival adhesive, no tape. The interior pages are clean. There is a small newspaper clipping pasted down in the margin on one page relating to a poisonous mushroom. There are no other marks or writings. Tall book (10") and a normal width. ; 4to; 169 pages
