This book contains two volumes of The Ladies Garland and Family Magazine bound in one (binding) . Volume 10, July to December 1846 and Volume 11 from January to June, 1847. The book is 3/4 dark brown leather and pebbled cloth covers. The end papers are marbled in a complimentary design. There are eight hand-colored floral and bird engravings and a number of black and white steel engravings and mezzotints throughout. The spine is titled Ladies Garland and Volume 10. There is decorative gilt as well. The covers have some scuffed corners with some breakthrough of the leather. There is a slight loss of cloth at the fore-edges on the book. There is a small label of a Rochester, NY bookstore on the upper corner of the front end paper. There is a name and place (Laurence, KS) in pencil on the first blank page. There is another name in pencil on the title page. There is another or the same Lawrence, KS name on the verso of the end paper in pencil, plus some very, small words in pencil. The binding is tight, Except for the scuffing, the covers are clean. , There are no marks on the end papers other than what has been described. The pages are fairly clean of smudges, with a touch of foxing throughout, a little heavier in spots. There is also some offsetting from the engravings. Most of the hand-colored engravings are covered in a fine tissue paper. There are some ink splatters on the last dozen or so pages. There is a short tear on the first blank page - repaired with Japanese tissue paper. One of the articles is titled "How to Reform a Husband". The quality of the coloring is good to very good, not as fine as in more dedicated floral books from the same time period. There are 192 pages in each volume. Charming. ; Vol. 10/11/2010; 8vo

This is a two volume work with the original dust jackets. The books are tight, bright, and very clean. There is a former owner name on the reverse of the end papers in both volumes. There is a touch of wear mostly in a slight fading at the edges of the cloth covered book boards. There are 950 color portraits of birds by Major Allan Brooks. These books are heavy because of the glossy paper for the pages and may require extra postage if shipped overseas by air. The end papers depict the bird flyways of North America. These books have been well cared for. The dust jackets are plain paper printed with a pictorial of birds in flight. There is some staining and edge wear to the jackets. A little uncommon in the original jackets. Jackets protected in new, see-through, removable mylar cover. ; Vol. 1/2/2007; 8vo

The book has a yellow-beig e cloth cover and small circle that encloses a duck outline - it is in gilt ink. The front cover and spine is quite clean - there are some spots on the rear cover - somewhat light in shade. The binding is tight without any break in the hinges. The end papers are free or writing except for a former owner name on the pasted down end paper. There are no other marks. The end paper is a double side photograph in black and white. It is repeated at the rear. There is a color image for the frontispiece (adjacent to the title page) . The book is profusely illustrated in black and white photos and drawings. This is a two volume first edition bound into one book. The covers are 3/4 leather with marbled boards. It is possible the book was rebound with the original spine laid down. The covers are clean with some contained wear at the corners. The marbled covers have been rubbed with some loss of color. The hinges are tight and the end papers and pages are clean, however the full plate illustrations are foxed (brown spotting from an or acidic reaction in the paper used) . The first volume consists of 348 pages, the second of 336 pages. There are no marks or writing other than an engraved heraldry bookplate of Richard Shuttleworth Streatfeild. The title page and frontispieces are illustrated. Edited by Harry Lorrequer. May require extra postage if shipped by air. ; 8vo
