1 'SUMMER' .... AN ETCHING BY IGNAZ MARCEL GAUGENGIGI American Art Review

This is a single etching in near fine condition by a German-American artist, Ignaz Marcel Gaugengigl (1855 - 1932) . The image is of a seated lady in turn-of-the-century attire, her face is in profile as she looks at something outside the frame of the image while putting on or taking off a glove. This piece has the loose, free character of a sketch while depicting the etchers ability to catch slightly windblown hair, and lace with soft folds of fabric. The Image is 7" height x 4 1/2" width. The outside dimensions of paper are 12 1/8" H x 9" W. This etching is from the American Art Review by Koehler. Clean and crisp - no marks or wear. Signed on the plate in the upper left corner. ; .

This is a steel engraving of A Jewish Synagogue, engraved by Ebenezer Challis after a painting by Solomon Hart. There is a lushness of ink in dark shading of the interior lit by candles. The print is double matted in archival matboard and the outside dimensions are cut for standard size, ready-made frames (frame not included) . The print is on heavy stock paper that has been hinged to the matboard opening, not pasted down. The print has been backed by acid free paper, placed on foamcore, then wrapped in acetate. The print can be hung on the wall temporarily as the acetate has a glassy look. The print is very clean. The outside dimensions of the matboard is 18" high x 14" wide. The inside dimensions of the window opening is 10 1/2" high x 8 1/2" wide. ; -

This is an etching in near fine condition of "A Sketch-North River", by Reginald Cleveland Coxe. The image depicts a lone tugboat with a trail of steam against a cloudy or foggy background including a vague coastline beyond the ship. The etching is of fine quality with intricate linework. The print is neat and exceptionally clean with a strong plate mark. The antique white woven paper has no tears or chips. The print is hinged on a piece of archival matboard and matted with an opening using archival, quality matboard which can be used for framing. (Frame not included. ) The image size is approximately 3 3/4" in height and 6" wide. The plate mark is approximately 1/4" out from the image. The window opening is approximately 4 3/4" in height and 7" wide. The outside dimensions of the matboard are 10" x 13". Signed on the plate with initials, RCC. 1888. Coxe is known for marine and atmospheric scenes . Coxe, American, 1855 - 1926/7. Member of the American Barbizon School during the Etching Revival. ; .

This a printers sample of a knight in armor on a horse with the word Achievement above. The artist is Walter Rosenthal. The print was used to describe a new technique in printing innovation in 1927. The color and registration is excellent and the matboards selected compliment the print perfectly. The dominant colors in the print are red, blue, and white on a grey background. The matboard is a grey with a blue liner. The outside dimensions of the matboards have been cut to fit a ready-made, standard size 11 x 14 frame (frame not included) . The matboard is rag core archival. The image size is 6" high x 6" wide. The print is hinged, not glued. The print comes with a foamcore backing and an acetate cover that allows it to be temorarily hung on the wall without framing as the acetate has a glass look. ; -

THis is a beautiful chromolithograph printed in 1896 in Germany. Artifacts of the African culture are depicted - headdresses, drinking vessels, masks, necklaces, drums, baskets, implements, dolls, weaving. The composition is interesting, the depth of printing is magnificent. The rich ink can be felt on the paper. Each item has a tiny number associated with it, then a legend of each piece is included on a separate piece of paper in German with the name of the tribe of origin of the artifact. The outside dimension of the matboard will fit a standard 10" x 13" frame (frame not included) . The print is matted in complimentary brown acid free matboard. The image size is 7 3/4" high x 5" wide. The print is hinged, but not glued. It is backed by foam board and everything is wrapped in protective, removable acetate. ; -

The bottom half of the printing (in the text printing only, not in the pictoral diagrams) looks as though it was printed twice and the second printing didn't quite match up, but the labels are still readable. Architectural heliotype print in fair plus condition taken from the American Architect and Building News magazine of 1879. Print depicts the design for the restoration of Christ Church in Germantown, Pennslyvaini a by the architect H. R. Marshell out of New York. The church is rendered as a beautiful line drawing including the surrounding landscape. Print also indicates the floor plan printed within a scroll shape in the lower left corner of the drawing. Print contains no chips or tears. Paper has a slight yellowing consistent with age, along with some spotting, small stains across the entire print, and some finger marks as well. The worst of this lays outside the image, in the borders, and the image itself is relatively clean. Print is hinged on conservation quality matboard with acid-free linen tape. Print measures 9" x 13 1/2", image measures 7" x 9 3/4" mounted image measures 18" x 14" (height by width) . ; 14" x 18"

Architectural heliotype print in good plus condition taken from the American Architect and Building News magazine of 1878. Page contains two images of cottages built in Berkley, California by the architectural firm Meeker and Banks. The top image is a cottage built for R. W. Poindexter Esq. And the bottom cottage was built for Chas. K. Clark. Esq. Cottages are rendered as a beautiful line drawings including the surrounding landscape. Print also indicates floor plans printed in vignettes in the top corners of each drawing. The vignettes in the top cottage indicates the main and attic floor plans while the vignettes in the bottom drawing indicate the first and second floor plans. Print is neat and relativly clean with no chips or tears and the paper has a slight yellowing consistant with age. There is a half dime water spot at the left edge that does not effect the image and about a dime size spot in the upper right hand corner of the lower drawing that extends into the drawing very slightly, about a 1/16 to 1/8 inches, but is not noticable unless held to the light. Print is hinged onto conservation quality matboard with acid-free linen tape. Print measures 13 1/4" x 8 3/4", and image measures 11 1/2" x 7 1/4" which includes page title (American Architect and Building News Oct. 26 1878) and 18" x 14" mounted (height by width) . ; 18" x 14"

Print depicts the Building of the Mutual Life Company of New York in Boston Massachusetts designed by the architectural firm Peabody and Sterns. Print depicts the building in perspective from the corner as a beautiful line drawing including a section of the adjoining building and the street as well. Print contains no chips or tears. Paper has a slight yellowing consistent with age with more darkening on the lower right-hand corner of the print extending very slightly into the image, about 1/8 inch. Paper also contains some spots, staining and some finger marks, most of which lay outside the image. Print is hinged onto conservation quality matboard with acid-free linen tape Print measures 12 3/4" x 8 1/2", image measures 11 3/4"x 7 1/2" (including the title: American Architect and building News March 9 1878, and lable: Building of the Mutual Insurance Company...etc) and 18" x 14" mounted (height by width) . ; 18" x 14"

Post Office and Courthouse at Little Rock, Arkansas designed by the architect J. G. Hill. The building is rendered in perspective from the corner as a beautiful line drawing including the adjoining building and the surrounding landscape as well. Print also includes two floor diagrams set within vignettes of the entrance and third stories. Print contains one shallow chip on the bottom edge of the print along with a small closed tear coming from that chip. Paper has a slight yellowing consistent with age with some staining and fingermarks, most of which lays outside the image, but one stain is quite noticable in the sky ubove the building. Print is hinged onto conservation quality matboard with acid-free linen tape. Print measures 8 3/4" x 13", image measures 8 1/2" x 11" and 14" x 18" mounted. (height by width) . ; 14" x 18"

The colors are a rich blue and blue-green with touches of gilt and red. The print excludes the text of the ad and is double matted and ready to frame. The matboard colors are a perfect compliment of blue and blue-green. The image size is 6 3/4 inches high x 6 1/4 inches wide. The outside dimensions are cut to fit a standard, ready-made frame (frame not included) . The double matboards are acid-free rag.
