VIEWS OF FLORIDA
1 VIEWS OF FLORIDA
Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket
Beautiful book of small photograph-looking vignettes of various places in Florida from about the Early1900' s. The images are drawings that are presented to look like photographs in their beautiful sepia toned and glossy printings. The book is about 6" high and about 10" wide. There are two to six views to a page and there are 25 pages. The front end paper and adjacent page is a single, birds-eye view of Jacksonville with steam and saliing ships on the River. The images overlap each other as in a scrapbook. There is wonderful clarity. The covers are a Victorian style red cloith. The front and back of the covers are blind-stamped and the front cover is filled with grey, black, and gilt ink in a Victorian style. There is a floral bouquet, a gilt border, a vignette of a crocodile, and a banner for the title. The covers are clean with only a light touch of wear - straight corners, bright. The interior pages are near fine. The pages are bound so as to pull out accordian style. ; 8vo

Oslo, Norway Dreyers Forlag 1961 First Edition Hardcover
This is a handsome full leather covered book in a dust jacket. The text is in English. The book would be in fine condition if not for some bumps to the top front corners and a slight effect to the pages. The leather is a fine calf in a light sea blue color with wide ribbing, gilt lines and gilt decorative design. There is a gilt title on the spine. There is a paper dust wrapper that has a tear and some chipping. The book is illustrated with photos and drawi ngs by Nansen. The frontispiece, Northern Light, is in color. A few of the plates are in color, most of the photos and drawings by Nansen are in black and white. There is also a map of the route of the "Fram" - a sledge expedition. There is also a section of cartoons as cartoonists saw Nansen - he was famous and closely followed on his explorations. Nansen was also a oceanographer, geologist, zoologist, outdoorsman, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Various people have written the chapters. The end papers are clean except for a trace of a pencil price erasure. The pages are clean on heavy coated paper. The top edges are gilt.
