This book contains two volumes of The Ladies Garland and Family Magazine bound in one (binding) . Volume 10, July to December 1846 and Volume 11 from January to June, 1847. The book is 3/4 dark brown leather and pebbled cloth covers. The end papers are marbled in a complimentary design. There are eight hand-colored floral and bird engravings and a number of black and white steel engravings and mezzotints throughout. The spine is titled Ladies Garland and Volume 10. There is decorative gilt as well. The covers have some scuffed corners with some breakthrough of the leather. There is a slight loss of cloth at the fore-edges on the book. There is a small label of a Rochester, NY bookstore on the upper corner of the front end paper. There is a name and place (Laurence, KS) in pencil on the first blank page. There is another name in pencil on the title page. There is another or the same Lawrence, KS name on the verso of the end paper in pencil, plus some very, small words in pencil. The binding is tight, Except for the scuffing, the covers are clean. , There are no marks on the end papers other than what has been described. The pages are fairly clean of smudges, with a touch of foxing throughout, a little heavier in spots. There is also some offsetting from the engravings. Most of the hand-colored engravings are covered in a fine tissue paper. There are some ink splatters on the last dozen or so pages. There is a short tear on the first blank page - repaired with Japanese tissue paper. One of the articles is titled "How to Reform a Husband". The quality of the coloring is good to very good, not as fine as in more dedicated floral books from the same time period. There are 192 pages in each volume. Charming. ; Vol. 10/11/2010; 8vo

This is a sorftcover periodical - Winter 1972. Contains 'Elegy for Neal Cassidy' by Allen Ginsberg and an Interview with John Berryman 'The Art of Poetry XVI' . Contributors in this issue - John Ashbery, Kenneth Bernard, Lou Reed, David Shapiro, Ted Berrigan and more. The book is in good condition. There is a spot on the front edges at the bottom of the book, a slight crease on the lower front cover. The interior and covers are quite clean. There is a hint of darkening on the spine. No marks or writing. No underlining. No wear or tears. Classic early 70's. The editors at the time were Plimpton, Matthiessen, Silvers, Fuller, Hall, Ardery, Gtoffsky. ; 8vo; 208 pages

This edition includes four photographs of paintings by Mark Rotho (Betty Parsons Gallery) and a paragraph statement by Rotho about his paintings. The Table of Contents for this edition is three pages long. There is a woodblock reprint by Anne Ryan titled "In a Street". The 3/4 leather is a maroon-red Morocco with ornate, bright gilt, tooled, banded fleurettes on the spine and marbled paper on the book board covers. The end papers are also marbled. The top edges are gilded. The book is in near perfect gift condition - well cared for. There are no marks or writing. There is no wear. There is a darkening to the paper used on the verso of the end paper and the adjacent blank pages. ; N°30; 8vo

This is an early printing hardcover book without a dust jacket. The book is bound in a handsome greyish blue. The gilt title on the spine is weak and lightly present. The gilt on the front cover is brighter, easier to read, and just a little rubbed. The copyright page does not have any printings listed. It has the two paragraphs with the disclaimer about 'any real person or event'. The name Ayn Rand is printed below the paragraphs with a date of March 10, 1943. There four type errors present: . Page 9 shown as page o; Page 321/5 spelled refrrd; Page 381/4 - the G in G W is small' Page 480/2 has the spelling Domininque. The book is tight, bright, crisp, clean with no marks or writing except for a tiny line drawn on the top of the text block. There are a few very faint spots on page 22 and a tiny crease on page 699, most likely creased while binding. The covers are very clean and crisp without wear. The top and bottom of the spine ends curve in slightly towards the text block. All the other interior pages are crisp and clean - on lightweight paper. There is a thin design drawn across the top of the text block with light graphite. Well cared for. There is no jacket. ; 8vo; 754 pages

This is an attractive book (let) published in 1930 probably sold as a guide book and momento of a visit to the Poe shrine. The book has a slightly stiff paper cover with an image of the home in an etched style and a title, nicely designed. The pages highlight the background and features of the home. There are facsimiles of photographs on every page. The photos and text were printed with brown ink. The booklet is bound with a fine cord and is strong and tight. The book would be in fine condition if not for two little issues - a trace of an ersure on the title page and a little spot on the cover that shows a little on the rear panel under the cord. That little spot can be seen on some of the interior pages. Tight, bright, crisp. No marks, no writing, no other wear. No tearse or chips. No corner wear of other soil.; 8vo; 27 pages

This is a hardcover book in a dust jacket. Though the copyright page says First Edition, the book and jacket appear to be the second edition. The book is in fine condition. Tight binding, clean end papers and pages. There are no marks or writing. The dust jacket is equally crisp and clean. There is a tiny tear on the reverse panel. Unclipped. The book has been well cared for. Includes "Civil Disobedience", a detailed Chronology and various writings about the author. There is also information about the writing and publishing of the book. Edited by Philip Van Doren Stern who also wrote the Intnroduction and Notes, plus the Bibliography. Tall (11") , wide (8-9") , thick (1 1/2") . ; 4to; 502 pages

10 Twain, Mark HUCK FINN & TOM SAWYER AMONG THE INDIANS An Unpublished Manuscript..... Walter Blair Life Magazine 1968

This is the original printing of the excerpt from the December 1968 Life Magazine publication. This is not the 2002 book. This excerpt is 15 pages of text and a cover with a photograph of Twain. There is art illustration throughout in black and whte and some in color tints by JamesMcMullen, illustrator and artist. This excerpt was taken from the magazine. The unfinished work was printed on regular paper instead of magazine paper. It has become a beige color with darker toning on the front vertical edge and a little on the other edges. It has a stapled binding. It is very clean and crisp with no marks or writing, marks, or wear. This excerpt comes with a two page article (on magazine paper with another photo of Twain) by Walter Blair with two titles: "An unpublished manuscript- American Fiction's most famous boys set off on a wild adventure they never finished" and "The reasons Mark Twain did not finish his story. " First written in 1885, Twain stopped writing in the middle of a sentence. This manuscript stops at that point. Blair explains. Later, in 2002, author Lee Nelson received permission to finish the book. This is the original excerpt only, plus the two page article by Blair, not the Nelson book. The rest of the magazine is not included. The total number of pages are 18. The two pages by Blair are clean with no marks or writing. There is a soft crease on one corner and faint toning (white to beige) at the edges. ; 4to; 15 pages

This is a First Edition hardcover book without a dust jacket. The book has aa red-maroon ribbed cloth cover with a bordered title in slightly fading gilt on the front cover and a black printed title on the spine. The binding is tight, the corners are straight with just a faint touch of wear at the outer corners. The interior is clean. The top edges are a little dulled. There is a bookplate of Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin on the front end paper and a William Doyle (Auction) Galleries slip laid in that states that the book is from the library of Ruth Gordon. There is a tiny bookstore label from the Tilden Stationer in Keene on the rear pasted down end paper. ; 8vo; 426 pages
