This is an original hardcover book published and printed in 1900. The binding is very good as are the covers, but with some wear at the tips of the corners and spines. There is a former owner name and date on the end paper. There are no other marks or writing. The covers are green cloth with a design and title printed on the cloth in green ink. There is a title in gilt on the spine. Charming black and white line drawing illustrations by Albert T. Reid - contained within the text and with some on the full page. Mostly clean and crisp pages - an occasional smudge, a few small spots. The setting for the fables is Kansas. There is a delightful Preface by the author about fables - the story behind fables (Aesop's) - it's an entertaining and easy read. The illustrator Reid was the most famous cartoonist in Kansas according to words by the author - his work was in McClure's and Judge magazines (as of 1900) . ; 8vo
