161 FOOLS ORCHIS The Orchis Tribe (An Original Hand-Colored Engraving)

For sale: This is a small original, hand-colored engraving from circa 1780. The words "The Orchis Tribe" is in the upper left corner, "Fools Orchis" is center bottom, "XIX.2" is upper right. The print is delicately engraved and colored by hand. The border is a fine line. The paper is clean, there is a very tiny chip at the edge of the upper left edge. There are six illustrations within the print, each with tiny alpha and numeric cross-references, however the legend is not attached or included. The print has been trimmed close to the border. It is 4" tall and 5" wide. The paper is an antique white and watercolors used are pinks, greens, greys. The background mat board is a complimentary pink and the mat board is beige. The print is mounted on quality rag and buffered mat board using archival hinges (it is hanging loose; not glued) . The print comes with a double mat, professionally cut in a light beige. The outside dimensions of the mat board are 12" high x 9" wide; the mat board will fit into a standard (U. S. ) frame size. The price includes the print, matting, art foam backing support (unglued) ; a frame is not included. Any glare in the image is from a protective acetate wrap-around to keep the print and mat board protected. ; .

Gothenburg, Sweden Brostrum's 1965 First Edition Hardcover 
This is a tall, crisp, clean Anniversary book of the shipping company Brostrum's and The Brostrum Group . There are 148 pages of text and illustrations in black and white followed by 12 unnumbered pages in color with one fold-out of three panels. From sailing ships, to commercial, to military, to commuter, to cruise ships, to yachts, plus towage and salvage. Well cared for - tight binding, sea blue cloth with bright gilt border and title on the front cover and gilt title on the spine. Very clean with no marks, no writing, no wear. The end papers are crisp and clean with only a faint hint of a pencil price erasure in the corner of the front free paper. The book is heavy because of the sturdy binding and the glossy quality paper. May require a little extra postage depending on the destination and method of shipping. ; 4to; 148 pages

London Batsford Colour Books 1949 First Edition Hardcover 
This is a First Edition hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book belongs to the series of Batsford Books - a combination of text background on the subject a Frontispiece and 15 plates that are blank on the reverse side. Nicely colored with careful detail with a caption below that emphasizes needlework, fabric, etc. , plus the use for the dress. Court dress, Walking dress, etc.. Each plate is numbered next to the caption with notes containing emphasis and explanations. The Frontispiece has a border of scarves, hats, bows, feathers, belts. All plates are in color. The binding is tight, the book has a neatly written former owner gift note on the front free end paper corner - dated 1951. There is a small moisture mark on the lower right corner. The book interior is clean and crisp. The plates are pristine. The books is paper covered, not cloth. The dust jacket has another scene in color. There is some darkening at the top and bottom edges. The soft paper jacket has wear at the points where the jacket is folded over the spine and the fore edges. There are a couple of short closed tears and minimal small chips at the corners. Generally clean, unclipped, and now protected from any further wear by a new, archival, see-through, removable mylar cover that makes the book look bright and fresh..; 8vo

This is a softcover book published during the World War I period, no date is specified - about 1919. The War Camp Community Service was a homefront orgnaization formed to raise money and rally support for the military soldiers. Many towns and their residents were adjacent to military training stations or convalescent sites. One of the activities was finding entertainment for the soldiers on an evening leave. This included games for children as wellas the convalescent. This book refers to couples and players. A typed letter size paper is folded and enclosed with this book. It is addressed to war camp workers and recommends a book of table card games for the convalescent and provides a overview of the contents. It is dated June 20, 1919. The book has 1, 2, or 3 games on each of the 23 pages following the title, foreword, and contents. The cover is a soft art paper. It has an embossed label of the War Camp Community Service on the cover along with the title.. The binding is soundly stapled. There is a light crease at the lower front corner of the cover and the first page which is blank. There is a former owner name in the upper right corner. There is a short, closed tear on the bottom edge of the last few pages. There are no other marks or writing. The price includes the letter promoting the book about card games for convalescents. ; 8vo; 28 pages

This is a hardcover book guide without a date. The fonts on the cover make it look like a turn of the century book, the contents and paper indicate a 1950's date. The book is comprised of many varieties of Indexes and maps. The only page in text is one page in both French and English. The streets of Paris are tabbed alphabetically for quick reference. Following the streets there are batches of convenient reference for Tourist offices, theatres, hippodromes, bookstores, ministers, hospitals, embassies, There are colored maps of divisions of the city with numeric tabs. There is a large fold out map of Paris. There is a map at the front of the underground transportation routes. The book looks like it was barely used. The large fold out map of Paris is in near perfect condition. The map in the front has a slight extra crease at one of the folds. Very clean. There are no marks or writing other than a former owner name and address. The covers are in brown cloth with a silver metallic ink title on the front cover. Tight binding. Crisp. SIGNED. This is a tall softcover auction catalog from the auction house of Kornfeld and Klipstein for auction 151 held in June of 1974.. The bright red cover Is printed with the title (above) and the name of the auction house and a large facsimile of the monogram of Albrecht Durer. The reverse side of the front cover has an inscription (name of female) and is signed "Gift from E. Kornfeld"; . Kornfeld's name was Eberhard W. Kornfeld. There are 41 pages of printed text related to the auction items and 39 pages of images. There are five images of Claude Lorrain in a heliiogravure type printing. One is a full page, blank on the revese; two fold-outs printed on one side each, two prints back-to-back on one fold-out. All other images are black and white half tone on glossy paper. There is a light touch of wear at the corners. The covers and pages are very clean. This appears to have been an auction of important artists, including Rembrandt, Piranesi, Tiepolo, Montegna. ; 4to; 80 pages; Signed by Author

This is a hardcover book in leather with a worn, but interesting spine. The book has two title pages, one with the full list of games (29) , another with a short title in mixed fonts and flourishes. Both are dated 1830. The remainder of the title page that lists all the games is "Together with an Analysis of the Game of Chess, and an Engraved Plate for the Instruction of Beginners. Carefully Revised from the Last London Edition with Several Additions". The Publisher name, date, and address Is the same - W. C. Borrodaile, 1830) . There are two engraved plates with game boards, one is a fold-out. There are several plates that appear to be hand-set. There is a engraved frontispiece of four people at a table each with a fan of cards held in their hands (Engraver - Tuthill) . There is a former owner name in ink at the top of the first title page. The leather covers show wear and a remnant of some tape. The spine is exposed. The cords that form the bands are exposed, the leather from the bottom panel is partially missing, exposing the gatherings (signatures) . The title on the spine is just readable. Other small pieces of the spine leather are missing. Somewhat charming in spite of wear. An old attempt at reinforcement of the interior hinges is suffering from the loss of glue. The page with the frontispiece is partly glued near the hinge. Though the covers are secured, the cords have expanded to form a space gap at the hinge of the front cover. The rear end paper is missing. Some pages have foxing (light brown spots - a chemical reaction within the paper from impurities in the paper or the environment) . The image of the card players serve to create the atmospher in which the book was consulted and add to the charm. Small (5 1/2" x 3" x 1" thick). ; 12mo; 288 pages

This is a miniature sized flexible leather bound book of hymns published in 1891 by Thomas Nelson and Sons and printed at the Oxford Printing Press. This very small book (3 3/4" tall by 2 3/4" wide) has a tight binding. It is a dark brown smooth leather over paper (instead of book boards) making it quite flexible. One peice of leather is used to cover the front, spine, and rear. Two corners have micro edge wear on the corners. There is some scuffing to the leather that can be covered with a professional application of leather dye-polish. All edges are gilt and slightly worn. The pages are crisp and clean. There are no marks of writing and no stamps or adhesive of any kind. Used, but also well cared for such a fragile book. The font is small. The paper is thin, but strong. All pages and songs are separately numbered. There is an Index of First Lines at the rear and a Table of Contents at the front. . ; 64mo 3" - 4½" tall; 440 pages
