Most notable contents include a two part article titled 'A Tour Through Arizona' focusing on Native Americans and the serial by Dickens, Our Mutual Friend - 16 chapters of Book 1 and 3 chapters of Book 2. Illustrated with an engraving of Dickens and occasional wood engravings in black and white. There are multiple contributions by Tennyson, A. Trollope, Charles Nordoff, Mary E. Dodge and single contributions by Francis Parkman, Thackeray and many more authors. Articles: Civil War updates, Winemaking in California, Chinese slaves, Military Hospitals at Fortress Monroe, Homoeopathy, Coal and Coal Mining, Australia adventure, Diamond Mines, stories, poems, cartoons, humor, current events, literary notices, fashion. The binding is tight, 3/4 dark brown leather and matching sturdy cloth, raised bands, Harper's Magazine in gilt on the spine. There is some wear to some corners and the start of separation at the top of the rear hinge. There are no marks and no writings. Foxed end papers. Occasional Foxing on pages. There are a few closed tears on the end papers now repaired with archival tissue paper. There is one or two small chips on the pages of the book. There are 824 pages. The book has a tight binding, straight corners, is very clean inside and out, however the first page of Chapter 1 has been underlined and there is a former owner name in ink and another on an pasted down label of the front end paper. The unclipped dust jacket is quite bright and crisp with a touch of edge wear at the topof the spine and two closed tears on the rear panel. The work is translated by Drs. McIntosch and Twyman. ; 8vo

Published in Philadelphia with a copyright date of 1840, Though there is a crack on the vertical curve of the upper front cover, the binding is tight - there is a touch of repair/reinforcement. The front interior hinge end paper is separated but firm. The leather is a little scuffed around the edges. The end papers are blank - no writing, no marks, no labels, but there is a little darkening at the edges. The interior pages are crisp and clean, but the tips have darkened some - noticeable when the book is closed. All text; the font is large than usual in small books. ; 12mo; 117 pages

It is from a book published in 1929 in Paris. The paper used in the book is disentagrati ng. The paper used for the map is superior. The map is simple black ink on a beige paper. It has fold marks to fit into the book. The condition is crisp and clean except for a closed tear along one of the fold that extends into the map about 1/4 inch. The map covers the area from Spain to Japan. It is 10 1/2 inches tall x 17 1/2 inches wide, by neat line measurements. The outside dimension of the map is about 3/4 more inch on all sides. There are two routes - for Hiuan-tsang and Yi-tsing. India is named Empire of Harsha. The lettering is of a varied and readable size. The map could still be read if framed. It will be mailed folded and well protected. The short tear has been mended from the rear side with archival Japanese tissue mending tape. There are no marks, no writing, no spots. The binding is very tight, the leather is in near fine condition, the gilt title and the flourettes are very bright. The end papers are marbled. The condtion of the pages is excellent. The book contains biographical sketches of prominent Americans. There are many photogravure and half-tone portraits and nicely printed armorials in metallic and colored inks. ; 4to; 368 pages
