This is a book nearing miniature size. Hardcover - paper covered board with a tiny spine in cloth. There I s a little clown on the front and back cover. The reverse of the cover in aqua and white with little images of a chicken, duck, bear, and rabbit looking at a book. The short story is illustrated with pleasant drawings in color - som are on the same page as the text, some are full page. There is a little wear on the cloth over the spine and there are signs that the book was read carefully, but there are no marks, no writing, no soil, no tears, no chips. Tightly bound. St. Paul, MN Northern Pacific Railway Company 1909 First Edition Hardcover 
This is a book with a fold out map in a soft cover, bound by staples. The map is in fine condition. It folds out from the binding in four panels. It is about 17" tall and 33" wide. There is soft color to define state and international borders. It shows the routes of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy RR System in addition to the Northern Pacific Railway System. The text with its lists, graphs, tables, fiscal statements is also in fine condition. No marks or writing. The covers are paper - there is a closed tear at the bottom front with a crease and the spine fold has been reinforced from the inside with Japanese tissue mending paper. The map is on very thin, lightweight, but strong paper - it covers the part of the U S from Wisconsin to the Pacific Coast, part of Canada near the border, and the bottom part extends from Northern Illinois to Northern California through the intermediate states. Akron, OH The Saalfield Publishing Company 1937 Softcover Illustrated by Fern Bisel Peat 
This is a tall, wide, thin softcover book illustrated by Fern Bisel Peat in six very large pages with large art in bright colors, plus a kitten image on the front of the cover that is repeated on the rear cover. The back ground color is a bright orange. The cats are dressed in calico and checkered patterns. Charming. The paper on the cover has a fabric type feel. The book has no jacket as designed. There is some wear to the spine (loss of paper at the edge and there is an inch separation at the bottom of the spine which has been repaired using Japanese rice paper tape and archival glue. The binding is tight (stapled) . There is a little wear to the corner. The pages are quite bright and clean, but there are a few foxing spots in the margin (light brown spots caused by an reaction to the acidic contact or the environment) . Delightful art and the story is a classic. ; 4to

This is the first edition hardcover book without a jacket. Spiral bound - tall, wide, thin (18 pages and 2 more on the inside of the covers. The illustrations are copies of very nice art by Grif Teller and R C Wardel, plus some drawings without names. The spiral binding is in fine good condition. The covers are in good condition - there is some edge and corner wear to the paper covered and illustrated stiff covers. The interior pages have a little soil - on the faint side. The pages are very strong - reinforced by the fabric like paper called 'Linenette'. There are no marks or writing. No crayons. No creases. There is a tiny label of a bookstore (The Book Shop, S. Grosvenor Building, Providence, RI) at the bottom corner of the rear page. 12" high. Delightful for the child who is interested in trains and ships.. ; 4to

This is a hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book and jacket look unused - tight, bright, and very clean. There are two places where there is a hint of a water/moisture line and a touch of rippling - not that noticeable. The covers are a bright red cloth with bright gilt titles on the cover and spine - very clean and with no wear. The dust jacket is equally crisp and clean. The back panel of the jacket shows a little rippling if examined closely. There are no marks or writing in the book, however there is a former owner book ownership plate on the reverse of the half-title page. There are five fold out maps in fine condition - USSR, European Russsia, Moscow, Leningrad, Crimea. There are other maps throughout the book included with the text. All the pages are crisp, clean, and in English. The bottom corners of three of the pages near the back of the book had creases. There is a silky red page marker to save a place in the book. Meant to take along on a trip, this book did not leave the book room shelf. ; 8vo; 832 pages

Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket 
Beautiful book of small photograph-looking vignettes of various places in Florida from about the Early1900' s. The images are drawings that are presented to look like photographs in their beautiful sepia toned and glossy printings. The book is about 6" high and about 10" wide. There are two to six views to a page and there are 25 pages. The front end paper and adjacent page is a single, birds-eye view of Jacksonville with steam and saliing ships on the River. The images overlap each other as in a scrapbook. There is wonderful clarity. The covers are a Victorian style red cloith. The front and back of the covers are blind-stamped and the front cover is filled with grey, black, and gilt ink in a Victorian style. There is a floral bouquet, a gilt border, a vignette of a crocodile, and a banner for the title. The covers are clean with only a light touch of wear - straight corners, bright. The interior pages are near fine. The pages are bound so as to pull out accordian style. ; 8vo

This is a books with handsome cloth, flexible covers and a hand sewn binding using silk cord in the Japanese style. The cloth has brown and gilt ink design. The contents contain three books, each with variable reprinting dates - ninth, sixth, second printings all with the latest printings from 1950. The book is printed on delicate paper that is in fine condition. Each oblong piece of paper used in the book was bound at the open ends so that a fold is at the front edge (fore-edge) which provides strength. Illustrated in black and white line drawings and photos in half-tone process, some with poor distinction due to rerprintings. All illustrations are within the text. The title page references 889 illustrations. The book is 600 pages - the book is about 1 1/2" thick. Quarto = 8 3/8" tall. The covers are delightfully fresh as are the pages. There is a hint of a vertical crease in the center of the front cover. There is thread wear on the rear upper corners and the top of the spine. The book comes in a soft paper floral book cover that shows wear with some tears and chips. Charming publication. The contents emphasize the culture, customs, arts, objects, and short bits of history. ; 8vo

This is a promotional booklet bound in paper wrappers (covers) using staples. 9 1/2 inches high x 6 1/4 inches wide. The front and back covers are of orchards. The front has an image of a cluster of apples on a branch. The inside of the covers are of faintly colored scenes, one with sheep, one with people working in an orchard. The interior pages have a text history with many black and white half tone photographs. The last page is a birds-eye view of the topographical layout of Washington Co. With Weiser highlighted. The map contains the following: "Center of the Fruit Section of the Irrigated Empire. A Paradise for the Fruitgrower , Farmer and Stockman. Great Mining Resources. Gold, Copper, Silver. 2, 000, 000, 000 feet of Sanding Timber". The condition is very good to near fine. There is a little crease on the rear bottom corner. There is a hint of a pencil price erasure on the corner of the first page. There are a few nicks. No tears or chips. No marks, no writing, no stamps. Securely bound. Glossy paper. Crisp and clean. This is a small softcover Directory for the Village of West Milwaukee. It is the first edition of the 1929 directory. It contains names and addresses for residents and businesses in alphabetical order and then in street order. The book also contains the names of the Village Officials, the School Board and the Teachers, Church and Parochial School (looks like only one - St. Florian's Church) . There are many advertisements. Most are in text, some have a photo or logo. For example, Elliott's Express includes a photo of an old style version of a large pick up truck with a canvas top. There are simple logos for Anchor State Bank, Plaum Clothing Co. , Brynelsen-Edwardsen Autos (with a Nash logo) , Schneider Brother Printing Co. One ad offers repairs for silk stockings - "If your Silk Stockings have runs, don't throw them away, I'll make them look like NEW. Runs Relatched Very Reasonable. Mrs. N. R. Flintrop" The cover is a soft grey with a tasteful decorative design near the spine. The binding is staples. The first page has a clipped edge. This is a stiff cover book published in 1925 for the Missionary Education Movement of the United States and Canada. This book is included in the "Nursery" Series Number 2 published by Turnbull and Spears of Edinburgh, Scotland. This is the First American Edition. Each page of text is accompanied by an illustration in color by Elsie Anna Wood. This binding is thin book board covered in brown pape. There is a little girl holding a large bowl on the cover with the title and names of the author and illustrator. The condition is good - a new paper spine that matches/compliments the tan/brown of the paper over boards cover has been professionally added. The paper on the covers show a little wear to the paper surface and there is a short closed tear of the paper on the front (fore) edge that is not too noticeable.. The front end papers have a few small faint spots and there is a hint of a price erasure, plus a closed tear that is not very noticeable. There are no other marks or writing. The rear end papers and all the interior pages are clean. The amount of text fills half a page and the illustrations are all coordinated to the text. ; 12mo; 61 pages

This is a hardcover leather bound book in calf. The binding is tight with strong hinges and corners. The title on the spine is worn or missing the leather band for the title - a hint of the title remains as a blind stamp. The end papers are worn and foxed and show faint writing or ciphering as do the last two pages and end papers - names, dates, and faintly readable - pencil.. The pages of the book are uniformly age discolored with faint to heavy foxing.. The edges are darkened as are the tips of the edges - well read, but carefully handled because of the secure binding. There are three introductory chapters of 38 pages, eighteen chapters, a four page contents list in text paragraphs, and an advertisement by the publisher which is actually background information with caveats. This last page has a tear. The front end paper is missing, there is a blank leaf. At the rear, the verso of the Advertisement is blank, there is blank leaf, and end paper. 159 (Bergeron, Victor) SMOKEY STOVER Firefighter of Foo
Racine, WI Whitman Publishing Co. 1937 First Edition Hardcover 
This is a First Edition hardcover book of the first Smokey Stover books - Fire Fighter of Foo. The book boards (covers) are paper covered and the spine is paper simulated to look like cloth (and in charcoal black) . The original price of 5 cents is in the lower left corner. The number 1010 is on the right. Holman started the Smokey cartoon character strips to run on Sundays for the Chicago Trubune in March of 1937. It went to a daily strip in 1938. This book, the first in the series, was published in 1935. Foo is one of the words he created. The cover is illustrated with a drawing in color of Smokey looking behind him and signalling for the others to follow him. The back cover is a dark green-black. The paper is fragile (not acid free) . There is a title page. It appears that there are supposed to be 9 pages at the rear titled "CUT-UPS FOR GROWN-UPS" Holman invites the owner of the book to do crazy little things some based on the characters in the strip. They are printed on both sides of the page. This former owner took him up on it and did cut some. Two pages being complete. , Two are missing one quarter of the page. One page was torn out and the remnants of that page are present. All the 56 pages of the black and white cartoons are present. The pages in the interior are all in near fine condition (except as satted, the cut-outs which are unrealted to the comic strips on the other pages) The end papers are clean with no marks or writing, but the fragile paper split at the interior hinges, both front and back - it was brittle and inflexible. The binding is in excellent condition. The binding is tight and sturdy. The white background of the front cover is very clean. There is a touch of wear at the corners. All in all, this book must not have been read that many times or passed around. It may have only had one owner. ; 8vo
