This is an ex-library 2 volume hardcover first edition. The book is bound in a maroon cloth library binding. The covers are neat, tight, straight, and clean. The titles on the spine are in gilt, including library call numbers. The end papers are clean except for a library label on the pasted down front end paper. The pages are in good condition - crisp, clean, toning on the tips of the edges. There are library pinhole perforations on the front two blank pages and the title page. There is also a three letter stamp on the reverse of the title page and large library stamps on the bottom edges. A former owner's name is written near the top of the title page in brown ink. Volume 2 has a water mark on the first eight pages in a small space near the top of the gutter. There is a little chipping on the fore edge of the blank papers which appear to have been added in the rebinding. The original 1785 paper appears to be without any tears or chipping. Text in English. This is a small hardcover book, the second edition, of the Merck Materia Medica, published and printed in 1901. The book has a dark brown cloth cover. The book appears to have been bound upside down. The front cover is blank and the back cover has the Merck's 1901 Manual blind-stamped (reverse embossing) and the words "Property of Hospital Library" is blind-stamped and filled with a copper shade of gilt. The end papers are a pale light green with an advertisement from Merck for subscription to a journal, a place for an owner name (presently blank) and another ad for Merck's 'Analyses' Laboratory with a list of types of material they analyzed, plus the price. The reverse side of the front free end paper has an image of the Merck Building at University Place in New York. The rear pasted down end paper has a bird's eye view rendering of the Laboratories and Works in Darmstadt. The free end paper has a list of some Awards to Merck Products and a note to doctors about recognizing the label Merck uses on its products and cautions doctors to reject products not bearing their label. The last ten pages are advertisements for various products. The book is divided in four parts: Materica Medica (with the first appearance of 'aspirin' named by Bayer approximately two years earlier) ; Approved Formulas; Classification of Medicaments; Miscellany. There is a list of Abbreviations and various extra lists, tables, or paragraphs - Relation of Pulse and Temperatures, Obstetric Calendar, Pulse of Different Ages, Respiration of Different Ages, Metric System, many tables of metric measure; Eruptive Fevers. The book has a tight binding, clean covers, but with some corner wear. The pages are all clean and crisp, one page has a crease. There are no marks or writing - there are NO other signs indicating that this book was from a library - perhaps it was intended for a Hospital, but was rejected or held back. It has been well cared for. (The first edition was 192 pages, two years later, the reference grew to 282 pages. ) Continuation of the sub-title: ........ Physical Form and Appearance, Solubilities, Percentage Strengths and Physiological Effects, Therapeutic Uses, Modes of Administration and Applications, Regular and Maximum of Dosage, Incompatibles, Antidotes, Precuationary Requirements, Etc. Etc, of the Chemicals and Drugs usual in modern medical practice; - a comprehensive collection of prescriptions, embracing also the newer remedies of established merit; - a classification of mendicants; - and miscellany, comprising poisoning and its treatment. This is a large hardcover book about commerical businesses in Kansas City in the 1890's. The copyright date is 1899 (by E. S. Hand) . About half of the book is advertisements and the other half consists of detail about a grand hotel in Kansas City. This book was published about 1900.The covers are beveled book boards covered in cream colored paper vellum. "The Midland Kansas City' is blindstamped and filled in gilt on the front cover. The binding is decorative cord. The end papers are a small flower design in brown ink. The beginning pages are all mostly full page advertisements - many are railroad. The book and the text is intended to honor the construction of the hotel, The Midland, completed in1888. The book is printed on smooth cream paper with brown ink. There are numerous line drawings of the hotel, from a cross section of the floor to the spa, kitchen, front desk, power generator, bathroom, neighboring stores, transportation. Ornate letters of every style are used throughout to start the text. A charming book. The covers show soil, the paper covering at the top and bottom of the spine is chipped. The end papers are clean as are the interior pages. The pages are supple and crisp. All edges are a bright gilt. The cord has been replaced. Approximately 10 1/2 inches high x 10 1/2 inches wide. ; 4to

Each page is titled at the bottom to find the use that is covered - such as sickle keepers, feeder beater, tailing return adjustment. There is no date, but there is a logo and words on the cover - "Keep your war equipment fit and fighting". This is not an office copy, it is a shop copy - there are finger smudges on the cover and the front edges of the pages. It is not pristine. The binding is tight and there are holes that would allow the book (let) to placed in a three ring binder. The text and illustrations are free of smudges. ; 4to; 43 pages

This item includes two little books about playing poker. The first was published in Mainneapolis in 1941 by the Bruelheide Bridge Guild; the second by The United States Playing Card Company in Cincinnati, OH. (1959? ) . Both books have a tight binding - stiff paper covers bound with staples. Both show light wear to the cover - small stain on the back cover, a chip at the top of the spine. Quite clean. The interior pages are all clean and crisp except one has an interior page with a crease and has been strengthened with archival tissue paper. The quality of the paper is a little poor which is typical for the years and is starting to darken in one of the books. ; 8vo

This is a First Edition hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book would be considered to be in near fine condition if it weren't for bumping to the bottom front corners. The book cover and jacket background is a bright white that is exceptionally clean. The book binding is tight and the interior is also crisp and clean except for a faint smudge on the rear end paper. There are no marks or writing. The dust jacket is crisp and clean and is unclipped. The only flaw is the bumping to the corners which has also cause a light bump in the bottom pages at the rear of the book. This book has a printed label on the inside front end paper stating that "Pages 48 and 49 have been removed as a result of the subject withdrawing permission". Well cared for except for the bumps to the bottom corners. This book is tall and heavy and may require extra shipping if sent internationally. 13" tall x 10 1/4" wide x 1+" thick.
