44 ANYBODY'S GIRL A Production of the Blackfriars At the University of Chicago 1922

This is a softcover book published by the Blackfriars at the University of Chicago in 1922. The production of Anybody's Girl was Eighteenth Annual College Comic Opera for that year. It was held at Mandel Hall on May 5, 5, 12, 13. This was a student production. The Blackfriars was named after the theatre in London and there are two pages about the theatre written by Charles Breasted in 1920. There is a list off all members since 1904 and there is another page devoted to the staff of 1922 with five photos and a list of names. There is a group photo and list of names for the Brothers of the Order, a bio of the Producer, Hamilton Coleman and a short briefing on the play. There are two pages with an index of songs and a photo and list of the Orchestra, Cast, and Chorus. The music and lyrics start on page 17. The cover appears to be a woodblock print in black, white, and shades of orange. A name appears on the cover - it is most likely the artist - Rudolph Samuels. The book has a tight binding and the interior pages are all clean with no marks or writing. The cover has a former owner name in ink at the top of the front upper margin and is repeated on the rear cover in pencil including the name of the residence hall at the U. There is smudging on the rear which is white. The front cover has some very faint pencil writing on the left and right margin. There is a little spotting in the margin and light wear to the corners. Tall, wide, lightweight. ; 4to; 62 pages

45 APRIL (Original Woodcut Print by Gustave Baumann. )

This is a print (not a book) by Gustave Baumann. This woodcut was published in 1912 in conjunction with a book featuring the twelve months of the year accompanied by poems of James Whitcomb Riley. The printed poem is included. This image is of a small house with a fence, a little bridge to the stone steps up to the gate. There is a hint of spring with birds finding their 'house' and trees still a little bare. There is a border design beyond the printed border at the top corners and abbreviated on the bottom corners. The Baumann monogram is on the lower right. The colors are a soft orange, brown, blue, grey. The image with the border is 7 7/8" high and 6 1/4" wide. This print has been matted in archival materials. The print is hinged at the top; it is not glued down. The matboard may be opened to examine the paper of the margins. The dimensions of the paper are 10 3/8" high x 8 1/2" wide. The paper has a touch of foxing on the right and lower edge. The outside matboard dimensions are 14" x 11" which is a standard frame size. (Frame not included) . The matboard was selected to complement/match the tone of the paper. The print will be mailed with ample protective material. ; .

This is art deco advertising art from 1933 by illustrators known as 'The Reeses'. A female holds playing cards that are also in an art deco design. The colors are a rich blue and blue-green with touches of gilt and red. The print excludes the text of the ad and is double matted and ready to frame. The matboard colors are a perfect compliment of blue and blue-green. The image size is 6 3/4 inches high x 6 1/4 inches wide. The outside dimensions are cut to fit a standard, ready-made frame (frame not included) . The double matboards are acid-free rag. The print and the mats are backed by foam core and wrapped in acetate to protect the work until it is framed. The print could be hung on the wall as is as the acetate gives a glassy look. ; -
