42 Astruc, Marcel LE THEATRE DAUNOU Excert Pages from Feiullets D'Art
This item is eight pages from Feiullets D'Art - four pages of text and four plates of the Lanvin's Theatre Daunou. There is a wonderful small Art Deco decorative (solid color) lithograph representing theatre chair backs and seats blue fabric with a greyish green for the arms. It is on less than one-half of the last page. There four four plate tipped on to a greyish paper. Two are in color - the first is a full front look of the stage with a female form in the foreground. The other is an artists look at the plan for the buildingon the stage. It includes the over and side decorations of the stage in a Persian design - the colors are blue. There are two other tipped in blints ain offset black/grey on white - one is of an ornate lighting fixture. There are an additional three illustrations withint the text of peacock and monkey decor used in the theatre. The eight pages have been bound in a custom wrapper. ; 8vo; 8 pages

SIGNED. This is a signed, limited edition hardcover book (that comes with a very tattered, delicate, poor dust jacket) . The book has a rich black cloth cover with a paper overlay with the title. The end papers have a woven gauze pattern, white-green design against a dark green background. The book contains reproductions of 10 of the paintings in the original album by this painter. They are in tones of black, white, grey. Full page. The accompanying text includes testimony, poetry, excerpts from literature, artists, scholars related to art, artists, and bamboo and "Universal Art Principles". The design of the book empasizes layout and presentation. This book is number 494 of 500 and is signed by Ball in ink. The covers are firmly bound with strong hinges and end papers. There are no marks or writings on the end papers or pages. There is a tiny bookstore label near the front gutter (Westwind Bookshop Duxbury Massachusetts) . There is an errata slip pasted in at the rear. There is an old book scent. Tall, wide - approximately 13" x 13" . The dust jacket is poor and a portion of the back flap is separated, but present. This is the 1973 Mellon Lecture hardcover book with a dust jacket. The book is in near fine condition, there is a faint bumping to the rear corners. The binding is tight, covers crisp and clean as are the end papers and pages. No marks no writing. Well cared for. The dust jacket, regrettably, has a smaller than a dime size chip at the top of the front edge, a little rubbing or light wear to the blue color layer at the corners and fold. The jacket is clipped. Looks crisp in a new archival see-through, removable mylar jacket protector. This is Bollingen Series XXXV - the 22nd annual volume. This is a hardcover book in a dust jacket. The book is in a tight binding with fine and complete hinges. The brown cloth covers are blindstamped, the bind has blindstamped horizontal bands. The gilt title on the spine is dull in rubbed. There is a slight slant to the spine. The end papers are a yellow and are clean and complete. There is a former owner gift note dated Sep 22/55. It is written in neat script in a brown ink. The content is clean, but with some very clean pages and some with foxing (brown spots due to chemical reasctions to the environment or impurities in the paper or items left in the book) . The book is protected with a see-through, removable acetate cover. The book is divided into six Letters From Europe (about art) and thirty-two chapters on Experiences of Nature (including two on fishing) . The gift note is "To Mrs. Lavinia F. This book is signed on the half title page by Broussard, one of the prominent Art Deco artists of France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and was well known for the work he did for the fashion houses of Paris. The book would be fine except for faint soil on the back panel and a little wear at some edges. The interior is fine. Protected in a see-through, removable mylar cover.
