This is a hardcover book published in 1884. There are four maps . The book has a navy blue clot cover with a paper label on the spine with the title information. It appears to be the original binding. The end papers are brown coated paper without any writing. The pages are crisp, but with some light to moderate foxing - (brown spots that come from environmental reaction to the paper. The top edges of the pages is darkened. The binding is tight. There are no marks or writing except for a former owner name and date (1891) at the top of the title page. The four maps are crisp without wear, but two of the four also have some light foxing. The foxing can start from non-archival materials used in the binding, glue, etc. There are two appendices and an Index. Well cared for. ; 8vo; 463 pages

This is a hardcover book of 416 pages published in 1873. The book has a green cloth cover with bright gilt titles on the front and spines. There is a fold out map and eleven full page illustrations with tissue guards. There are many illustrations with the text throughout the book. The book has a tight binding. The front lower corner has a little wear on the bottom corners. There is a slight touch of wear at the top of the spine. The gilt on the spine had dulled a little. A former owner gift note has been written in pencil on the front end paper which is a dark brown and coated paper as used in the 1870's . The pages are crisp and clean. The map is in color. It has a closed tear which has been professionally repaired on the reverse side using Japanese tissue archival paper. The map is crisp and new looking in every other way. There is an Index and four pages of book advertising by the publisher. The title page includes the date1873 and matches the copyright page - it is the Harper and Brothers first edition. It was published in the same year in London. In spite of a few faults the book gives the impression that it was well cared for. ; 8vo; 416 pages

This is a handsome full leather covered book in a dust jacket. The text is in English. The book would be in fine condition if not for some bumps to the top front corners and a slight effect to the pages. The leather is a fine calf in a light sea blue color with wide ribbing, gilt lines and gilt decorative design. There is a gilt title on the spine. There is a paper dust wrapper that has a tear and some chipping. The book is illustrated with photos and drawi ngs by Nansen. The frontispiece, Northern Light, is in color. A few of the plates are in color, most of the photos and drawings by Nansen are in black and white. There is also a map of the route of the "Fram" - a sledge expedition. There is also a section of cartoons as cartoonists saw Nansen - he was famous and closely followed on his explorations. Nansen was also a oceanographer, geologist, zoologist, outdoorsman, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Various people have written the chapters. The end papers are clean except for a trace of a pencil price erasure. The pages are clean on heavy coated paper. The top edges are gilt. This book has been well cared for except for the bumps to the upper front corners - not that distracting. This book will NOT fit into the U. S. Priority flat envelope if shipped internationally. Inquire about First Class Intl postage by air with shipping in a box. The book is 10 1/4 inches tall and 7 3/4 inches wide. Very nice. ; 8vo; 203 pages
