This is a handsome full leather covered book in a dust jacket. The text is in English. The book would be in fine condition if not for some bumps to the top front corners and a slight effect to the pages. The leather is a fine calf in a light sea blue color with wide ribbing, gilt lines and gilt decorative design. There is a gilt title on the spine. There is a paper dust wrapper that has a tear and some chipping. The book is illustrated with photos and drawi ngs by Nansen. The frontispiece, Northern Light, is in color. A few of the plates are in color, most of the photos and drawings by Nansen are in black and white. There is also a map of the route of the "Fram" - a sledge expedition. There is also a section of cartoons as cartoonists saw Nansen - he was famous and closely followed on his explorations. Nansen was also a oceanographer, geologist, zoologist, outdoorsman, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Various people have written the chapters. The end papers are clean except for a trace of a pencil price erasure. The pages are clean on heavy coated paper. The top edges are gilt. This book has been well cared for except for the bumps to the upper front corners - not that distracting. This book will NOT fit into the U. S. Priority flat envelope if shipped internationally. Inquire about First Class Intl postage by air with shipping in a box. The book is 10 1/4 inches tall and 7 3/4 inches wide. Very nice. ; 8vo; 203 pages
