This is a books with handsome cloth, flexible covers and a hand sewn binding using silk cord in the Japanese style. The cloth has brown and gilt ink design. The contents contain three books, each with variable reprinting dates - ninth, sixth, second printings all with the latest printings from 1950. The book is printed on delicate paper that is in fine condition. Each oblong piece of paper used in the book was bound at the open ends so that a fold is at the front edge (fore-edge) which provides strength. Illustrated in black and white line drawings and photos in half-tone process, some with poor distinction due to rerprintings. All illustrations are within the text. The title page references 889 illustrations. The book is 600 pages - the book is about 1 1/2" thick. Quarto = 8 3/8" tall. The covers are delightfully fresh as are the pages. There is a hint of a vertical crease in the center of the front cover. There is thread wear on the rear upper corners and the top of the spine. The book comes in a soft paper floral book cover that shows wear with some tears and chips. Charming publication. The contents emphasize the culture, customs, arts, objects, and short bits of history. ; 8vo
