This is the original printing of the excerpt from the December 1968 Life Magazine publication. This is not the 2002 book. This excerpt is 15 pages of text and a cover with a photograph of Twain. There is art illustration throughout in black and whte and some in color tints by JamesMcMullen, illustrator and artist. This excerpt was taken from the magazine. The unfinished work was printed on regular paper instead of magazine paper. It has become a beige color with darker toning on the front vertical edge and a little on the other edges. It has a stapled binding. It is very clean and crisp with no marks or writing, marks, or wear. This excerpt comes with a two page article (on magazine paper with another photo of Twain) by Walter Blair with two titles: "An unpublished manuscript- American Fiction's most famous boys set off on a wild adventure they never finished" and "The reasons Mark Twain did not finish his story. " First written in 1885, Twain stopped writing in the middle of a sentence. This manuscript stops at that point. Blair explains. Later, in 2002, author Lee Nelson received permission to finish the book. This is the original excerpt only, plus the two page article by Blair, not the Nelson book. The rest of the magazine is not included. The total number of pages are 18. The two pages by Blair are clean with no marks or writing. There is a soft crease on one corner and faint toning (white to beige) at the edges. ; 4to; 15 pages
