This is a small book /booklet/ of 14 pages of text, starting on the inside of the cover and printed through the reverse side of the cover. This is a little book used to promote good teath. The front and rear covers are fully illustrated and there are three full page illustrations as well as some illutrations within the text - all in bright color. The text is a fable for children about brushing their teeth, including some verse. The booklet was published by the National Dairy Council, the Twin City Unit in 1928. The booket has a staple binding and would have been considered fine in condition if not for a half inch closed tear on the fore edge (front edge) of the cover and the first pages. They are repaired with transparent Japanese rice paper. ; 12mo

10 PLAYBILLS: "ADVENTURES OF TOM THUMB AND THE HOLLY AND THE IVY" DUBLIN Dublin

Playbills. Dublin. The items for sale are two Playbills for theatre performances in 1958 and 1968. 1.) Adventures of Tom Thumb with Maureen Potter and Guest Star Ray McAnally, plus Hal Roach, Patricia Cahill, Danny Cummins at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. This is a tall, narrow playbill of 16 pages, including the cover - all printed in black, white and some red. The playbill has been well cared for - tight staple binding, no wear, no soil. The only mark is a former owner note on the rear panel with the names of people who attended the performance with the owner on 30/12/68. In ink. The playbill contains background information about the story and the performance, photo and bio information on the actors, advertisements. 2.) The second playbill is a simple two pages folded, stapled, but not perfectly lined up. The playright is Wynard Brown. It was performed at the Dublin Globe Theatre. The former owner wrote her name and the date she attended, 27/4/58. The playbill is book size. There is an extra horizontal fold in the playbill, not too visible. Clean generally, with just a touch of soil on the bottom front corner. ; 8vo

11 PLAYBILLS: SYDNEY: "SOUTH PACIFIC" AND "THE RELUCTANT DEBUTANTE"

These two playbills are from performances in Sydney, Australia in the 1950's - both performed at the J. C. Williamson Theatres - Empire and Theatre Royal. 1.) South Pacific with stars Mary La Roche, Richard Collett, Virginia Paris and others. The cover is a blue mountain and lagoon scene with a red sunset. The remainder of the playbill is in black and white. There are previews of upcoming plays and advertiseme nts, 2.) The Reluctant Debutante stars are Roger Livesey and Ursula Jeans - the play is a comedy by William Douglas Home. Contains star photos and biographical information plus advertisements. The former owner wrote in ink on the rear panel - probably 1950's for South Pacific and a name and date of 7/6/56 on the second playbill. Well cared for. Books size, stapled binding, black with and red on the cover of Debutate. Well cared for - tight binding, no soil or wear, however there is tactile evidence of a little ripple on the front cover of South Pacific, that isn't visible. ; 8vo

14 CINDERELLA. HANSEL AND GRETTEL. (Postcards Published in Bound Booklet)
Switzerland Fabrication Suisse Booklet 
This is a tall, narrow bound booklet containing perforated postcards in lithographic color and outline black and white line drawings of the images in the postcards. The black and white outline can be colored by copying the postcard (opposite) and then both the published or the hand colored postcard could be sent. Or the entire booklet could be preserved. All black and white cards are untouched. The postcards tell the Cinderella and the Hansel and Grettel stories in pictures. No text. All the drawings are signed on the card with a monogram that contains the letters M and W. The M is over the W. The cover has a colored image of Conderella in a window feeding birds with more birds approaching. There are 12 lithograph postcards and 12 black and whites. The reverse side of each is lines for an address, note, and a place for the stamp. The paper is delicately brittle. Some of the bottom corners have chipped at the points with the art of the card untouched. The booklet is bound with staples and some of the fold in the booklet has separated and reinforced with archival tape - not touching the postcards. Some perforations have started to separate. Must be handled with care until used. The cards and covers are quite clean, but with a faint spot or two on the rear cover. The rear of the booklet shows that the booklet was published in Switzerland the the Fabrication Suisse. There is a logo and the Number 836.; 8vo

THis is a beautiful chromolithograph printed in 1896 in Germany. Artifacts of the African culture are depicted - headdresses, drinking vessels, masks, necklaces, drums, baskets, implements, dolls, weaving. The composition is interesting, the depth of printing is magnificent. The rich ink can be felt on the paper. Each item has a tiny number associated with it, then a legend of each piece is included on a separate piece of paper in German with the name of the tribe of origin of the artifact. The outside dimension of the matboard will fit a standard 10" x 13" frame (frame not included) . The print is matted in complimentary brown acid free matboard. The image size is 7 3/4" high x 5" wide. The print is hinged, but not glued. It is backed by foam board and everything is wrapped in protective, removable acetate. ; -

The title page of the American Patriot Office in Boston precedes a forword providing background to the article. The article is 29 pages, printed in Washington at a government printing office dated 1856. This is original 1856 publication, not a reprint. The booklet is neat, crisp, and clean with small, modest ex-library stamps at the top and bottom of the foreword and ink mark at the bottom edges. A light blue art paper cover has been made for the article and the original binding perforations were used for a new cord binding. Well cared for and now protected. ; 8vo; 31 pages

This book contains two volumes of The Ladies Garland and Family Magazine bound in one (binding) . Volume 10, July to December 1846 and Volume 11 from January to June, 1847. The book is 3/4 dark brown leather and pebbled cloth covers. The end papers are marbled in a complimentary design. There are eight hand-colored floral and bird engravings and a number of black and white steel engravings and mezzotints throughout. The spine is titled Ladies Garland and Volume 10. There is decorative gilt as well. The covers have some scuffed corners with some breakthrough of the leather. There is a slight loss of cloth at the fore-edges on the book. There is a small label of a Rochester, NY bookstore on the upper corner of the front end paper. There is a name and place (Laurence, KS) in pencil on the first blank page. There is another name in pencil on the title page. There is another or the same Lawrence, KS name on the verso of the end paper in pencil, plus some very, small words in pencil. The binding is tight, Except for the scuffing, the covers are clean. , There are no marks on the end papers other than what has been described. The pages are fairly clean of smudges, with a touch of foxing throughout, a little heavier in spots. There is also some offsetting from the engravings. Most of the hand-colored engravings are covered in a fine tissue paper. There are some ink splatters on the last dozen or so pages. There is a short tear on the first blank page - repaired with Japanese tissue paper. One of the articles is titled "How to Reform a Husband". The quality of the coloring is good to very good, not as fine as in more dedicated floral books from the same time period. There are 192 pages in each volume. Charming. ; Vol. 10/11/2010; 8vo

25 PLAYBILL: OKLAHOMA! New York 1944 and 1945

This is a paper covered Playbill for a performance of Oklahoma! At the St. James Theatre in New York. There is a 1945 date in pencil at the bottom of the rear panel, however the musical originally started in December of 1944. Rodgers and Hammerstein with dances by Agnes de Mille. Production by Rouben Mamoulian. This is a 56 page playbill with a paper cover. It is book size. The binding is staples. There are many articles about the musical and background on all related participants, plus articles of interest to theatre goers and their fashion and food interests. There is a paragraph just below the description of the acts cautioning theatre goers that because of governmental restrictions, the St. James Theatre would not be able to give a Playbill to every person - the audience was aksed to hsare their copy with a companion. There were many advertisements for perfumes, clothing, spirits, hotels, restaurants, cosmetics, dining rooms, watches - and Heinz 57. The interior of the Playbill is crisp and clean. The cover has small chips at the top and bottom of the spine, a spine tear, and a shor tear on the rear edge of the cover. There are no other marks or writing. ; 8vo

This is a beautiful chromolithograph print of common songbirds. It was printed in Germany in 1896. The art, colors, rich ink, and carefully executed printing is quite rewarding to look at. The print is hinged, not glued and matted in a complimentary matboard that picks up one of the dominant colors in the print. The outside dimension of the matboard is cut to fit a standard 16" high x 12" wide frame, frame not included. The inside window dimension of the image is approximatedly 7" high x 9 1/4" wide. The print and matboard are supported by a foam core backing board and it's all wrapped in protective, removable acetate covering. Each bird has a tiny number printed next to it - a legend in German and Latin accompanies the print. ; -

This is a small hardcover book, the second edition, of the Merck Materia Medica, published and printed in 1901. The book has a dark brown cloth cover. The book appears to have been bound upside down. The front cover is blank and the back cover has the Merck's 1901 Manual blind-stamped (reverse embossing) and the words "Property of Hospital Library" is blind-stamped and filled with a copper shade of gilt. The end papers are a pale light green with an advertisement from Merck for subscription to a journal, a place for an owner name (presently blank) and another ad for Merck's 'Analyses' Laboratory with a list of types of material they analyzed, plus the price. The reverse side of the front free end paper has an image of the Merck Building at University Place in New York. The rear pasted down end paper has a bird's eye view rendering of the Laboratories and Works in Darmstadt. The free end paper has a list of some Awards to Merck Products and a note to doctors about recognizing the label Merck uses on its products and cautions doctors to reject products not bearing their label. The last ten pages are advertisements for various products. The book is divided in four parts: Materica Medica (with the first appearance of 'aspirin' named by Bayer approximately two years earlier) ; Approved Formulas; Classification of Medicaments; Miscellany. There is a list of Abbreviations and various extra lists, tables, or paragraphs - Relation of Pulse and Temperatures, Obstetric Calendar, Pulse of Different Ages, Respiration of Different Ages, Metric System, many tables of metric measure; Eruptive Fevers. The book has a tight binding, clean covers, but with some corner wear. The pages are all clean and crisp, one page has a crease. There are no marks or writing - there are NO other signs indicating that this book was from a library - perhaps it was intended for a Hospital, but was rejected or held back. It has been well cared for. (The first edition was 192 pages, two years later, the reference grew to 282 pages. ) Continuation of the sub-title: ........ Physical Form and Appearance, Solubilities, Percentage Strengths and Physiological Effects, Therapeutic Uses, Modes of Administration and Applications, Regular and Maximum of Dosage, Incompatibles, Antidotes, Precuationary Requirements, Etc. There are simple logos for Anchor State Bank, Plaum Clothing Co. , Brynelsen-Edwardsen Autos (with a Nash logo) , Schneider Brother Printing Co. One ad offers repairs for silk stockings - "If your Silk Stockings have runs, don't throw them away, I'll make them look like NEW. Runs Relatched Very Reasonable. Mrs. N. R. Flintrop" The cover is a soft grey with a tasteful decorative design near the spine. The binding is staples. The first page has a clipped edge. This is the ninth edition (1892) hardcover ex-library book with full library markings. There are four city plans and only two (out of four) maps according to the Table of Contents. The City Plans are: St. John, Halifax, Quebec, Montreal and the two Maps are: The Basin of Minas and the Old Acadian Land - and - Map of the Saguenay River. All the plans and maps are fold outs of at least three panels. The book is not pretty, but will come with an art paper cover that will allow the book to look good on the shelf. The binding is tight and the pages are clean. The cover is red cloth with a leather grain simulation. The spine is darkened and not quite readable, there are faint library call numbers and a painted dot of yellow and a chip at the top of the spine. There is some darkening around the edges of the ront and back cover and some corner wear.. There Is a title in gilt on the front cover - "Sweeter's Maritime Pronvinces". There is a library pocket pasted down on the inside end paper with a check in/out card which has been stamped several times. The end paper was an advertisement, now covered. There is a blank piece of paper pasted down on the front free end paper (also an advertisement) . There are several pages of interesting advertising at the front and rear of the book - mostly for companies and businesses in Massachusetts. The library name is perforated in pin like dots on some of the front pages. The library name is stamped on all edges. The top edge is darkened. One of the folds in Halifax mas has been repaired with Japanese archival rice-tissue paper. Reading copy, but with an art paper cover for appearance. There are 336 pages including a detailed Index, plus advertising. ; 8vo

The book includes a poem about paper-making. This book was made by the Eastwood Wire Corp of Belleville, NJ. This is a books with handsome cloth, flexible covers and a hand sewn binding using silk cord in the Japanese style. The cloth has brown and gilt ink design. The contents contain three books, each with variable reprinting dates - ninth, sixth, second printings all with the latest printings from 1950. The book is printed on delicate paper that is in fine condition. Each oblong piece of paper used in the book was bound at the open ends so that a fold is at the front edge (fore-edge) which provides strength. Illustrated in black and white line drawings and photos in half-tone process, some with poor distinction due to rerprintings. All illustrations are within the text. The title page references 889 illustrations. The book is 600 pages - the book is about 1 1/2" thick. Quarto = 8 3/8" tall. The covers are delightfully fresh as are the pages. There is a hint of a vertical crease in the center of the front cover. There is thread wear on the rear upper corners and the top of the spine. The book comes in a soft paper floral book cover that shows wear with some tears and chips. Charming publication. The contents emphasize the culture, customs, arts, objects, and short bits of history. ; 8vo

This very small book (3 3/4" tall by 2 3/4" wide) has a tight binding. It is a dark brown smooth leather over paper (instead of book boards) making it quite flexible. One peice of leather is used to cover the front, spine, and rear. Two corners have micro edge wear on the corners. There is some scuffing to the leather that can be covered with a professional application of leather dye-polish. All edges are gilt and slightly worn. The pages are crisp and clean. There are no marks of writing and no stamps or adhesive of any kind. Used, but also well cared for such a fragile book. The font is small. The paper is thin, but strong. All pages and songs are separately numbered. There is an Index of First Lines at the rear and a Table of Contents at the front. . ; 64mo 3" - 4½" tall; 440 pages

The image is of a seated lady in turn-of-the-century attire, her face is in profile as she looks at something outside the frame of the image while putting on or taking off a glove. This piece has the loose, free character of a sketch while depicting the etchers ability to catch slightly windblown hair, and lace with soft folds of fabric. The Image is 7" height x 4 1/2" width. This is a reprint of the 1735 document put into book form by The American Geographical Society in 1922. It is in a slipcase and has a map bound in and a three page brochure from The Society offering background is laid in. This book is a limited edition, # 663 of 790. The map facsimile is bound in and has six panels in what would be considered fine condition if not for a 1/4" corner crease. The map title is "A Map of Virginia according to Captain John Smiths Map Published Anno 1606 Also of the Adjacent Country called by the Dutch Niero Nederlant nno 1630 bt John Senex 1735. The border and boundaries are highlighted in three colors. The paper is handmade. It was printed by Douglas C. McMurtrie at the Conde Nast Press in Greedwich. The covers are beige-taupe paper with a vellum paper spine. There is a faint darkening on the spine. There is no title. There are no marks or writing on the end papers or pages. However, there are two spots on the first two pages where the paper contains a flaw on each page (bottom corners) . The slipcase has some wear, now repaired, at the bottom of the back and other slight wear to the corners. The slipcase is covered in the same paper as the book - nicely designed. ; 8vo; 20 pages

This is a hardcover book guide without a date. The fonts on the cover make it look like a turn of the century book, the contents and paper indicate a 1950's date. The book is comprised of many varieties of Indexes and maps. The only page in text is one page in both French and English. The streets of Paris are tabbed alphabetically for quick reference. Following the streets there are batches of convenient reference for Tourist offices, theatres, hippodromes, bookstores, ministers, hospitals, embassies, There are colored maps of divisions of the city with numeric tabs. There is a large fold out map of Paris. There is a map at the front of the underground transportation routes. The book looks like it was barely used. The large fold out map of Paris is in near perfect condition. The map in the front has a slight extra crease at one of the folds. Very clean. There are no marks or writing other than a former owner name and address. The covers are in brown cloth with a silver metallic ink title on the front cover. Tight binding. Crisp. Well organized content. ; 8vo

This is a softcover booklet of 26 pages with an art paper cover and a stapled binding. There is a photograph of the Singing Tower and its reflection in the water in the foreground. Pasted on. The blank is back excpt for the name of the Director, H. M. Nornabell and the 25 cent price. Five photographers are listed on the inside of the cover - Morse, Rittase, Geisler, Can Natta, Alexander. There is a 1946 copyright by The American Foundation Incorporated. The first page includes words about the Tower and Sanctuary being dedicated by Clavin Coolidge in 1929. There is a foreword by Edward W. Bok and an adjacent portrait printed in sepia ink. In termingled with the text are phtographs of the locale, carillon, organ, architectural detail, organ, flamingo, fountains.. There is a beautiful double spread of the Tower and trees in color at the center of the booklet. The front cover has a soft crease at the lower corner. There is a shading to the front cover from sun exposure. Clean. The interior is crisp and clean. A nice keepsake on art paper with a matte finish. ; Small 4to; 26 pages
