CATALOGUE OF AN EXHIBITION OF ENGRAVED PORTRAITS OF WOMEN WRITERS FROM SAPPHO TO GEORGE ELIOT The Grolier Club 1895 First Edition Hardcover This is a small Exhibition Catalogue in a wrapper. It contains a list of women writers, their birth and death years, type of writing, name of the painter of their portrait and the etcher/engraver (where known; some data is missing) . There were multiple portraits of some women by a variety of artists/engravers. The interior if crisp and clean with no wear, no marks or writing except for a pencil note of the number of engravers listed on the inside of the rear cover. The wrapper is the soft paper, hand set with red and black ink. This book has toning around the edges and there are multipe spots and some tiny chips at the tips of the corners. The binding is sewn. 7" high, 4 3/8" wide, a fraction of an inch thick. ; 8vo; 24 pages

THE LITERARY NORTHWEST September 1892 St. Paul, MN The Literary Northwest 1892 First Edition Softcover This is a softcover periodical that was published in St. Paul, MN (with a Representative in New York - Richmond & Walling. As Volume II, Number 1 of this short lived periodical, the pages start with 1. There are 72 pages that are untrimmed - the binding is stapled in signatures/gatherings that are uncut. The condition is good - the paper cover in a grey shade with decoration and shows that some thought was given to font design. The soft paper covers have some spotting and a scuffed fold for the spine - a chip in the upper right corner (about 1/4" in from the corner) , some creasing at the bottom corner, plus a small chip and two short closed tears on the rear cover. The interior pages are in very good condition except for a little dis-coloration at the untrimmed fore edges. There are no marks or writing. There are many article titles and authors in the Contents on the front corner. The titles of the articles that show up in the uncut version are: Aspect of the Labor Question by J. G. Pyle of the Pioneer Press; The Opposition of the Planet Mars - Corrigan, ex-astronomer of the USN; Shelliana by Mary F. Severance; Two Studies in English Literature by John A. Hartigan; Wit by Van Bibber; New Books (review) . Some of the signatures start with poems - not listed here. There are three and 1/2 pages of advertising at the rear of the magazine and the reverse side on the back cover. Many of the ads are institutes of education - U of Minnesota (free tuition at the School of Agrilcuture) , Carleton, Shattuck School, the Hardy School in Duluth, plus other ads.. ; Number 1; Vol. 11; 8vo; 72 pages
